These are the first foods you are told to quit when you go on a diet. Yes they can be laden with calories and fat but do you really have to go without?
Before you make a decision ask yourself, can you live the rest of your life without them? Now you might be addicted to these foods, but will the occasional treat cause you any problems?
That will depend on your medical history, but for most people the odd treat will never hurt them. The secret is how much you eat and how often.
If you were to eat a 12″ pizza then you would have eaten more than your daily calorie allowance. That is not to say how much fat you have consumed. Now it is time for that reality check. If you did eat this pizza how much exercise would be needed to work it off? The average person would need to walk briskly for 11 hours to work off those calories. Is it worth it? I think not.
But if you could have a healthy version, and only have a slice then that would be better. You can still enjoy that pizza taste without those extra calories.
What about fries? Cut down on the number of fries you eat and the number of times a week you also have them. Bake them in the oven rather than deep frying them.
Learn how to cook your favorite foods without making them full of fat, and loaded with calories. There are always ways to cut down on calories, you just need to look and see what you can do.
Use the oven more often instead of frying. Drain any food on a paper towel and let the excess fat drip onto that. Cut away the skin on chicken, and learn about nutrition.
And finally onto chocolate and the desire you have to eat chocolate. Many people love to eat chocolate. Instead of eating the vast quantities you have been enjoying cut down. If that is a problem, try eating a chocolate which has more than 70% cocoa in it. Most people can only eat a small amount of this type of chocolate.
There are ways in which you can improve your diet, without cutting out all the food you love. You need to see what you want more the pizza, fries and chocolate or the healthy body no longer suffering from so many medical problems.

If you are like most people then you are probably used to eating shrimps and other seafood in a restaurant. It is a fact that in America many people don”t know how to prepare fresh seafood at home. However, once you have tried it once it turns out to be quite easy and fun. Here are some tips for preparing grilled shrimps.
I love grilled shrimp but it is not always the tastiest dish. I don”t like grilled shrimp if it is not done right. Grilled shrimp should not be over cooked or under cooked because it is tough, tastes terrible, and could be dangerous.
I think that it is too expensive for what you get but others will pay outrageous prices for it. The last time I had some I was not very impressed. The shrimp in question came from a popular chain restaurant. I cook grilled shrimp at home and it turns out just right, not tough, just delicious.
To prepare the shrimp just use salt, pepper, and a light dusting of garlic powder. Even putting the delectable taste of these shrimp aside for a moment this recipe has everything going for it: it uses only ”kitchen staple” ingredients (with the exception of the shrimp). It does not involve a stick of butter or deep-fried batter, like many other shrimp recipes I”ve test driven. It cooks in six minutes. It makes you look like a celebrity chef to anyone you have over for dinner. Shrimp can be made fattening by cooking it in butter or deep frying it.
I can”t say enough about how excited my family gets when they know I am cooking grilled shrimp for dinner. The key is to have all of your side dishes done before you cook the shrimp so it can be served up hot, right off of the grill. There are many sides you can enjoy with grilled shrimp to keep your dinners interesting. For example I often like to make a pasta with a white or red sauce and top the pasta off with the grilled shrimp before adding the sauce.
You can serve it with some grilled vegetables and some rice as well. If you enjoy Asian foods you might try some ramen noodles with a few fresh vegetables in it and some grilled shrimp added at the end just before serving. So remember the number one tip when grilling shrimp is be prepared, don”t overcook it, have your side dishes ready and your table set.

You”re hungry, you”re at home and you don”t have much food in the house. You can”t be bothered to cook and you want something that you can eat immediately. You need something more substantial than a biscuit or a mango, so what do you reach for? No, not the cereal, you need one of life”s most celebrated foodstuffs – the almighty sandwich. But what makes a good sandwich?
Believe it or not different people enjoy different kinds of sandwiches and what appeals to one person will disgust someone else. I am going to make some suggestions for sandwiches that you can make in a hurry to sate that ever-growing cavernous appetite.
The first thing you”ll need to include in a good sandwich is bread. Sandwich without bread is just some food, which as we all know is not a sandwich. When choosing your bread you have a black and white choice, brown or white? For me nothing can beat thickly sliced quality white bread. The best kind has a fluffy middle and tougher crusts, perfect for keeping the contents of the sandwich in check while allowing the taste sensation to flourish. Another good choice might be a quality French baguette.
Once you”ve chosen your bread you need the next bit, the margarine. Margarine is actually better than butter because when you try to spread butter it is too cold and you end up ripping the bread. This makes holes in your sandwich and could lead to some awkward social situations. So choose some good margarine, the heart-lubricating glue of the sandwich.
For speed when making a sandwich I usually just choose a spread, put some on and then start eating. Marmite is pretty good. The trick with Marmite is to not put too much on as then it tastes foul. If you”re slightly thirsty you can combine marmite with some sliced cucumber to add some moistness to the sandwich.
For a sandwich fit for a king try adding a slice of cheese to your Marmite and cucumber. It doesn”t take long to make but tastes great. Another good spread is peanut butter. It doesn”t have as many complementary ingredients so make sure you have a glass of water handy to wash it down.
Meat based sandwiches are also pretty good. Try some ham or bacon for the best effects. With a bacon sandwich you”re going hot so add some tomato ketchup for a really good meal. Some people will try to add mayonnaise to your sandwich, you must avoid this at all costs. I”ve never had a good sandwich that had mayonnaise in it, and I doubt you will either.

Failing at a diet is much more commonplace than succeeding at one. If you are like most people you have known your share of failure in dieting. People find they lose self control when it comes to dieting. They can have self control in all areas of their lives, except this one area. Mind you, a lot of it is spoken before a diet is ever started.
The question isn”t will you fail at this diet, but why you fail at any diet. The answer is simple, feeling deprived. Or to put it another way, being told you can”t have something. Or being told something is bad for you.
Let”s stop for a moment and look at these things.
Feeling deprived.
It is easy to feel deprived of something when you can”t get it. It might not be something you really enjoy, but not being allowed it suddenly you want it all the time. You suddenly see people everywhere eating it. You see television commercials about it, all the time. Has this item become the fashionable food item, or did you sub consciousness suddenly realize, and now it is seeing it for the first time?
You can”t have it.
Look no further than a child being told not to touch. They slowly move closer to it, hoping you didn”t spot them moving, and then a quick finger to see what happens. Look at adults, when you put a sign wet paint. The try and touch it to see if it really is wet, without looking like they are touching it. They become children again, wanting to do what they have been told not to do.
As soon as you are told no more chocolate, you will try all ways to sneak it in, without anyone realizing you are doing it.
It is bad for you.
Who suddenly decided that a certain food is bad for you? Now this is where you have to be careful, because some foods are very bad for you especially if eaten in large quantities. But think about a lot of diets today. Some say no meat, say some all meat, some say no red vegetables, and some say no carbohydrate. If you take the banned products from the top 50 diets you would be left with nothing to eat. Each diet is based on certain foods, and while they might be an element of truth in what they say, food eaten in small amounts won”t be harmful.

So much of what is written in nutrition today focuses on fat loss nutrition and diets but today I wanted to switch gears and talk about how you can use your diet to improve your health specifically your brain function. There are lots of supplements on the market that promise improved focus, energy, and brain output but these are all short term fixes that are chalk full of stimulants and B Vitamins (to be completely honest mega dosing regular B vitamins is NOT going to help your brain).
Today I”m not going to talk about the short term fix (even thought I do have what I call the ”Mind Mastery Stack” which is what I use on days that I have long and important test/exams). Instead, let”s look at three things that I do everyday to improve the function of my brain over the long term so hopefully as time goes on I can hold onto my ”marbles” and delay losing them
1. Eat blueberries – This probably comes to no surprise as the brain boosting benefits of blueberries essentially started the super food revolution. The antioxidants in these dark brain boosting nuggets have been shown time and time again to improve cognition and memory. Despite the well publicized and documented benefits of blueberries I still find that most people aren”t eating them on a regular basis (are you?). I”m talking about eating them everyday. You don”t need to eat organic or fresh ones either. Frozen blueberries are convenient, more cost effective, and just as nutritious. Start making a habit of eating 1 cup of blueberries everyday.
2. Fish Oil – If you read my blog on a daily basis you know that I LOVE fish oil. I don”t love the fishy taste – that”s not what I mean. I do love the drug like effects that they have. Research aside I have seen first hand with family and clients noticeable improvements in the memory of people taking 2-3g of EPA/DHA each day in as little as one month. That is truly amazing. There is also a fascinating body of research that is starting to build showing the beneficial effects of high dose fish oil in people with Alzheimer”s disease. Plus if you are pregnant and take fish oil you can boost your child”s I.Q. by a couple points as well (I know a couple points isn”t going to make your son/daughter the next Steve Jobs but every little bit helps right?)
3. Low Impact Carbs – Wanna know America”s #1 killer? Uncontrolled blood sugar levels. Seriously. Excess blood glucose is ”toxic” to your body. Controlling your blood sugar will also help you manage inflammation (inflammation is now being implicated as one of the major driving forces behind the aging process). Elevated blood sugar levels lead to increase glycation (basically this is when glucose molecules stick to things that they shouldn”t, like proteins or amino acids). This can lead to the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). AGEs have been not only implicated in the aging process but cancer, neurodegeneration (bad for brain function) and heart disease. Bad news huh? How can we avoid this? Controlling your blood sugar is as simple as controlling your carbs. To do this, I recommend that you focus on eating low impact carbs – broccoli, chick peas, spinach, peppers, black beans. When you prevent the blood sugar roller coaster from happening in you body each day you will provide your body and brain with a constant flow of energy throughout the day. This will fight the formation of AGEs and slow the inevitable neurodegeneration.
We all want to be smarter, think more clearly, and remember more stuff right? The three simple nutrition strategies that I have outlined above will directly impact on how your brain functions. As I mentioned in the beginning these are not quick fix blast your body with stimulant strategies. Eating blueberries, taking fish oil, and eating low impact carbs will help you improve your brain function over time (and hopefully slow the aging process as well). This is easy stuff to do – make it happen.

The introduction of bottle coolers into drinking establishments reflects the increase in the consumption of alcopops and bottled beverages. Night clubs often only sell bottled beers, ciders and spirit mixers to avoid using glasses. This not only cuts costs by reducing monetary investment in glassware, it reduces the need to pay staff to collect and clean glasses. There is also a reduction in injuries caused by broken glass, as generally glass bottles are more robust than drinking glasses. The mark up on bottled beverages results in greater profits for a drinking establishment and their sale is therefore a popular choice by landlords over the more traditional draught lagers and ciders.
The introduction of alcopops caused great controversy as it was seen to be promoting the consumption of alcohol to young people. The term alcopop derives from the word alcohol and soda pop, and basically describes the alcoholic content in a fruit juice or soda mixer. There has been a huge influx of these drinks in recent years as the bottled product is regarded as being more convenient than a drink in a glass. The mixes available hold great favour with female drinkers, and it a cheaper sugary alcoholic alternative to cocktails and traditional spirit drinks with mixer added, such as gin and tonic.
The gain in popularity has forced requirements on establishments to invest in large amounts of bottle coolers. It is essential that these drinks are served cold, and with such a high rate of consumption, there needs to be adequate cold storage. The most popular bottle coolers for the job are glass fronted display coolers. This enables the customer to see the range of drinks on offer whilst keeping the drinks cold. Alcopops are often brightly coloured to make them more attractive to the consumer, and the glass fronted coolers behind every bar show off a kaleidoscope of acidic hues to temp the next customer.
Sales of bottled beers have also increased, and the recent marketing campaign to promote the consumption of cider has seen sales rocket and the need for bottle coolers grow further. Some of the most popular drinks to be found in high street bars and beach front clubs are Magners, Corona, Bacardi Breezer and Smirnoff Ice. Their marketing campaigns are aimed at clubbers and they promote the drinks as a sophisticated alternative to buying pints of alcohol.
Bottle coolers are often supplied by a drinks manufacturer as a promotional item and as a not so subtle way of advertising. It is just as common for a soft drink company to provide a bottle cooler as it is a manufacturer of alcoholic drinks. The soft drink industry is as big a business as the alcohol industry; giants such as Coca Cola make a wide range of drinks that are sold in shops and public houses. Coolers stocked with Five Alive, Oasis, J20, and Dr pepper are often provided by the Coca Cola corporation for the sale of their drinks exclusively. That is why you will never see a can of Fanta alongside a can of Coca Cola in a Cola branded bottle cooling fridge.
As well as drinking establishments, coolers are frequently found in commercial kitchens, workplace kitchens and even in some peoples homes. Having a few friends round for a drink and being able to offer up an ice cold beer out of a Stella Artois fridge has an element of chic elite about it, and at the end of the day makes a fancy addition to a domestic kitchen.
