The centerpiece of your Thanksgiving meal would be the roasted turkey & it has been the king of your dinner table ever since Thanksgiving traditions began in the US. There really are lots of great recipes out there on how to roast turkey right but take note that the simpler the roast turkey recipe is, the better. It”s best to just have the basic ingredients so that your turkey really will still taste like that of turkey & not like the other ingredients that you”re using.
The dressing still is considered the best accompaniment to your turkey then it is followed a close 2nd by some mashed potatoes, deviled eggs & the potato salad. With those dishes to accompany your turkey for sure you”ll have a really delicious dinner which is good but turkey should still be left just the way it is, taste should still be that of turkey.
Most people usually wake up very early during Thanksgiving and they cook their turkey within a couple of hours & then wonder why their turkey turned out a bit tough. Actually turkey”s best cooked overnight so that you”ll achieve that roasted turkey that is full of flavor & so lusciously tender to the bite.
Cooking turkey overnight on your gas-fueled oven at low settings is really best but it is also a bit risky. It makes me stay awake overnight when roasting turkey inside the gas oven. I set its temp. at around 200 deg. F then at about 7AM, I just turn up temp. to around 350 deg. F and let the cooking finish within 2 hrs.
You could try & cook your turkey on the day itself when you”ll serve them up using an electrically operated oven but you”ll be sacrificing its flavor & it won”t be tender at all. Again, cooking your turkey overnight still is one of the best things to do.
Although cooking electrically is less risky when doing overnight cooking, it really is more expensive. Since you”ll be doing the cooking for the whole day, then temperatures will rise a bit in your kitchen. Using your electric roaster is actually one great way of cooking your turkey. It is not as expensive as using those gas ranges and it”s safer compared to those gas ovens. Also it creates lesser heat compared to the gas & electrically operated oven.
Just place your turkey inside your roaster at around 11PM & cover turkey using lots of margarine. Season with pepper and salt. Temperature should then be set to around 200 deg. F. Then you could now go back to sleep without worrying about anything.
If sometimes during the middle of the night you wake up, then baste your turkey prior to going right back to sleep. Next morning when you”re waking up at 7AM, turn your temp. to around 350 deg. F. then baste turkey for about 2-3 times during the last hours of cooking.
Your bird will cook after 3 hrs, and for sure the bird will really be tender and “fall of the bones” tender. So use your roaster because it”s the ideal way of cooking your turkey & save you much money and will give you that succulent and juicy Turkey for your centerpiece.

Some amateur bakers often ask if they can freeze or chill their cookies & cookie doughs. Of course, you may chill or freeze your cookie mixtures but not all cookie mixtures turn out to be successful when frozen.
Avoid freezing cookies with cream filling, meringues and any cookie mixture with a beaten egg white as one of its ingredients. Freezing or chilling these types will not be good because egg white in cookies tend to separate when they”re frozen. Although other kinds of dough/cookie mixtures become even better when frozen.
If you want to freeze or chill your freshly-baked cookies, you may cover them thoroughly with plastic and put them inside a freezer/ziploc bag. Another way to store these yummy cookies is to place them inside a clean container but divide each layer with plastic/serran wrap or with some waxed paper.
In most cases, the cookie mixture is often chilled rather than the already cooked cookies because cookies which are freshly-baked smell good and taste better than those that have been stored for quite some time.
For easier baking and preparation, it”s better to mold the cookie mixture into small logs before freezing. This way you may easily cut the cookie mixture and achieve even portions of cookies.
When making your cookie dough logs, you need to put ample amounts of cookie dough mixture on a piece of parchment or waxed paper. Then mold dough mixture into small log shapes that measure around 10-inches long with a diameter of 1.5 to two inches. Cover or seal the mixture properly by twisting its ends just like in candies. After properly sealing it, put the small logs inside a freezer/ziploc bag & place them inside your freezer.
In order to make sure that the cookie dough logs still have their proper shapes and not go flat on just one face, you may get them out of your freezer once they have been chilled for half an hour. Roll them again on a clean and flat surface and smooth out its flattened side.
If you want to freeze cookies individually, you need to shape your cookie mixture according to your preferred sizes and chill them until they”re hard and solid. When cookies are frozen, place them inside a ziploc bag or cover them twice for better protection before placing them inside your freezer.
Always put tags or labels on your plastic bags including the type of cookies & the dates that they were made. Never freeze your cookie mixture for more than three months to retain the flavor and freshness.
If you plan in baking your frozen or chilled dough logs, get them out of your chiller or freezer. Your small cookie mixture rounds which you just made are now ready for baking although they might need additional minutes inside your oven. The small dough logs you created must go through defrosting first before you cut and bake them. You may defrost your cookies on a clean counter top or through a microwave.
Freezing your cookies & cookie dough mixtures is always good just in case you get those cookie cravings.

Most people love cookies which are fresh and cooked to perfection at homes because it gives a very homely and nice atmosphere in your house. It also serves as therapy because of its delicious and relaxing aroma.
The cookie history was traced during the seventh Century in Persia. But during the 1800”s, cookie recipes started to get published on cook books. However, the name used was small or tiny cakes. The name cookies actually came from this Dutch term: koekje/koekie which denotes small or tiny cakes.
During the first part of 1900s until today, recipes for making cookies vary in flavors and styles. These little bites of sweetness are usual goodies baked inside one”s kitchen, and it is assessed that 50% of the entire homemade cookies were choco-chips.
However, there are numerous tasty cookie flavors which have not yet been tested or baked at homes. Cookie recipes on cook books are categorized according to their manner of preparation and cooking. The five cookie recipe categories are as follow:
1. Drop Cookies: This is one of the usual categories of home-baked and yummy cookies. It is prepared and baked by pressing and dropping the dough or cookie mixture from your spoon down to the parchment or wax paper. This type is actually easy to bake. You just combine all the ingredients, scoop, drop and cook. The famous examples are peanut spread , choc-chip cookies and oatmeal cookies.
2. Cookie Bars, Squares/Pan Cookies: These are probably the simplest and the easiest cookie recipe. You surely can make it without dropping a sweat. The cookie mixture is placed inside a container or mold and then sliced in small sizes right after cooking. Brownies fall in this category even if it”s a batter cookie and it has many variations.
3. No-Bake Cookies: This category does not need any oven. It is one of the best ways to familiarize children to baking. Among the known samples of this type are krispies, coconut-date balls, peanut spread/butter squares/bars and rum rounds or balls.
4. Shaped Cookies: This cookie category is usually designed and molded by hands. Shortbreads and spritz cookies are samples of shaped cookies.
5. Ice Box/Refrigerator Cookies: This cookie is done by freezing or chilling the batter/cookie mixture before cutting and cooking/baking them. Some books classify this as the slice-and-bake cookies. Just keep small logs of your desired cookie mixtures inside the freezer or fridge, and then cut prior to baking and best eaten fresh out from your oven. This is good especially when you suddenly have cookie cravings.
Everybody in your family or even your friends will appreciate your effort regardless of the category that you would like to bake. Baking your own homemade cookies will always an extra special treat.

Baking or making cookies is easy to do but when you want to achieve better tasting cookies you need to follow these simple tips and tricks that have been tried and tested to achieve yummier results.
1. If you want to make light yet crunchy cookies, you need to combine the ingredients using an automatic mixer. However, when you want thicker cookies you need to mix your dough manually. Remember not to over beat or mix or beat the mixture or dough because it can result to hard and thick cookies.
2. When the cookie recipe needs butter by all means put this ingredient in. But if in case you don”t have butter, margarine and shortening are acceptable replacements.
3. Usually cookies that are made using shortening are thick while cookies which use margarine and butter are flat but they are flavorful and tastier. When you want to create thick and flavorful cookies then use 50 percent light margarine/ butter and 50 percent of shortening.
4. In order not to overcook the cookie mixture, try to find and use a pan that does not stick and reduce your oven temp. by around 25 deg..
5. If you use the regular baking tray for the cookies, place a ply of parchment sheet first before baking. The parchment sheet is going to prevent cookies from sticking to the tray which makes cleaning easier.
6. If you intend to bake several trays of tasty cookies, see to it that you use a minimum of two or more baking trays to prevent dough from spreading. You need to keep in mind that placing your dough or cookie mixture onto hot surfaces can result to flat and unappealing cookies.
7. When you are ready to bake, see to it that you put the cookies within the center of your oven to allow equal heat distribution. A common practice in preparing cookies is providing 2-inch allowance on every side of your baking tray from the surface of your oven.
8.Be patient in baking your dough or cookies. Bake or put each baking tray inside your oven one at a time. When you put 2 baking pans simultaneously, the cookies or you dough mixture might not be properly baked. Some might be overcooked while some can be half-baked.
9. When placing the scoops of dough onto the baking tray, allow a minimum of one to 2-inch space between each cookie as well as at the sides of your baking tray. This provides equal distribution of heat which results to even baking of your great tasting cookies.
10. If you worry about making equal sizes of your dough or cookies, you may use a scoop just like the one you use in scooping your ice cream to measure the mixture or dough. Using an ice cream scooper allows cookies to have equal sizes.
These tips are recommended by experienced bakers so they are proven useful in preparing and baking perfectly yummy cookies. Have fun!

Both young and the old ones love and enjoy the sweet treats brought by cookies. Children most especially are hooked with these little bites of sweetness. Different terms and names are given to these delicious cookies. Spaniards name them as galletas while English people termed them as biscuits.
Germans name these small goodies as kels whereas people from Northern part of America name them cookies. Earliest forms of cookies actually were just tiny cakes known as koeje, a simple Dutch term for small cakes. This term koekje later developed and become cookie. Regardless of the label or name given to this delicious and aromatic flavor, they remain good treats for all children.
Usually, children love sweets or cookies which are bought commercially. In a report , there were five in demand brands of cookies in the market.
1.Oreo which sells around $519 M (million) annually
2.Chips Ahoy sells around $347 M (million) annually.
3.Chips Deluxe earns $160 M (million) per year.
4.Newton gets $137 M (million) in one year.
5.Fudge Shoppe earns around $127 M (million) in one fiscal year.
Even if kids enjoy cookies which are bought from stores, children still love the ones made from their homes. Children enjoy baking while the parents find quality moments with their children in this activity.
When you want to give your children some freshly baked cookies at home, here is a list of the most popular and tasty cookies which children love.

2.Double Choco-Chip Cookies: Double choco-chip flavored cookies are a favorite of most children. Ingredients are: sugar, salt, flour, butter, eggs, vanilla, leavening soda, cocoa (powder unsweetened), buttermilk and partially sweet choco-chips.
3.Peanut Butter cookie: Undoubtedly, this flavor is very much liked by children. You may enhance the flavor by using known brands such as: Jiffy, Skippy or Peter Pan peanut spread. When you want, you may combine it with choco-chips. You may also make your cookies healthier by using peanut spread that has no preservatives. The ingredients are: brown or unrefined sugar, eggs, peanut spread, butter/margarine, flour, shortening, leavening agent, salt, sugar (granulated) and baking agent.
4.Choco-Chip Cookies: Choco chip cookies are really famous to children. They feel soft, moist and chewy. You may consider the usual choco-chips, milk-choco chunks and gourmet choco-chips. The most-sought after high performance blenders are the Vita Mix 5200, 4500 Turbo Blender, the Vita Prep 3 hp blender, Waring commercial 3.5 hp blenders, and Blendtec HP3A blender, Total Blender, EZ Blender, 20 AMP 3.5 hp Smoother, etc. Theses blenders are so popular among raw food enthusiasts because their 2 hp, 3 hp, and 3.5 hp motors create 25,000 to 45,000 rotations per minute (RPM). It is almost a rat race for power, torque, RPM, speed, and who has the fanciest raw food emulsifier.
High RPM in these high performance blenders, the blade torque, and cutting power lead to the shear reduction of all ingredients in the blender container during the smoothie or raw food soup blending cycles. It has been suggested that the ingredients are hacked down into a cellular-size level, which enhances nutritional absorption. Digestion is becoming easier with foods that are consumed as a liquid. Of course, chewing action is an event that creates enzymes that help the digestion of foods. If only liquids are taken in, perhaps imitated chewing action can fake the body into thinking that it is time to produce these enzymes.
Ideally a raw smoothie is consumed within minutes or perhaps even seconds of its completion. Other meals in liquid form may have been previously processed and cooked to death. There are hardly any valuable live-nutritional ingredients left. Even when a smoothie is prepared from fresh and raw ingredients but consumed later on, perhaps hours later, the nutritional freshness will dramatically decline according to the exposure of air, it is still better than consuming non or these pre-cooked vegetables.
Some raw food experts have suggested that raw smoothies can be stored in the refrigerator in a canteen or vacuum container a.k.a. thermos containers. We have seen vacuum pumps that suck out the air from a canteen so the nutritional levels of raw ingredients last longer. Oxidation however occurs when oxygen gets into a liquid during the blending process. Oxidation will destroy or age the food nutritional value faster. The longer foods are exposed to this oxidation the smaller its value becomes in less time. A vacuum pump can not pump out the air that is already emulsified and blended into the smoothie itself. Such pump can only create a vacuum in a container in respect to the net space left.
Oxidation apparently even occurs during the blending cycle process within the smoothie liquid. You may have noticed your self that air is being added to the smoothie substance while blending. This is evident in the volume of the ingredients expanding during the blending. You can also see some foamy substance once the blending cycle is finished. Some ingredients create more foam than others. But there is just not enough scientific evidence of oxidation affecting a smoothie nutritional quality as early as the raw ingredients are blended. If there is some kind of a derogatory effect, it has certainly not been measured yet, or it is really insignificant. More scientific research is needed.
Ideally one might want to jug down a smoothie during the blending to prevent any nutritional value losses. That is not possible yet. And feeding raw smoothies or soups fresh with a tube directly from a vacuum container into the stomach may really be an over-reaction with your oxidation concerns. When the smoothie is finished, perhaps it should be consumed fresh and completely in a comfortable manner, not saving anything for later.
The fresh consumption of raw vegetables and fruits is already a huge improvement over not eating these vegetables or fruits at all. Some raw enthusiasts have reported that they are taking their smoothies to work for later consumption. That too is still better than not drinking this nutrient-rich (though quickly dying) meal at all. Or perhaps even a Break Room blender sponsored by your employer may increase the fresh raw smoothie or soup intake so you don”t have to carry around a thermos canteen, a vacuum pump, and an old smoothie inside it.
It is true that blenders and the blending with high performance blenders of raw fruits and vegetables can destroy the ingredients. But nutrients are enhanced during the blending cycle to its fullest potential. Phyto-nutrients are released. The raw vegetables and fruits finished-blended into soup or smoothies are completely energized to give you all of its values available, subject to harvest ripeness. These blended ingredients become also vulnerable to the elements of death in every form and very quickly.
We suggest that you consume the smoothies or fresh and raw soups in a timely manner so you get the most out of its nutrients. Waiting too long simply means that it was better to drink the raw smoothie in the time you had than consuming only precooked meals or not eating vegetables and fruits at all. And waiting too long also means that you simply have reduced the nutrient value by the time you have waited for consumption.
The timely manner specifically in respect to freshness of its nutritional worth is difficult to determine. Drinking the smoothie too rapidly without the imitated chewing action, gushing it down, is not good either. But it is still better than waiting too long and allowing oxidation to darken your nutrition (visible when the smoothie changes color). Ideally you should chew and slowly drink or consume your meal while enjoying it with your favorite company. But don”t take too much time.
Whatever too much time really means cannot be scientifically defined either. Perhaps experience will tell what is too fast or what is too slow of a soup or smoothie consumption. Hopefully you are not quitting your fresh raw smoothie or soup intake with your first experience.

Most people love to eat cookies because they are sweet, flavorful and yummy especially when they are properly prepared and baked. Cookies are great desserts. If you like munching on cookies, then now is actually a very good time to learn how to bake cookies. You may start with easy-to-cook recipes.
Personally, I always look at those easy-to-cook recipes because my 2 year old son also enjoys cooking and baking. He owns a small toy kitchen furnished with stove, sink, fridge and oven. He often stands over a small footrest and puts on his little apron.
He measures, mixes and pours as if he”s really baking. The funny thing is when he cooks inside his little kitchen, my son becomes like 1 of those food network stars on TV cooking and making funny anecdotes.
It was only recently when I discovered my eagerness to search for easy- to-prepare sugar cookies because I thought these cookies will be an interesting shift from my typical choco-chip cookies. Nothing”s a miss with our choco-chip cookies. In fact, everyone in our house loves them. However, I thought to myself that it will also be nice to expose my son to a broader scope of easy-to-make cookies. Besides, lots of easy-to-cook sugar cookies are found online.
Although the Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookie recipe seems difficult to make, I still consider it as an easy-to-bake recipes. You only have to combine the ingredients, put it inside the refrigerator and roll them in sugar after. After the dough has chilled, you just slice it according to your preferred sizes and then bake them. The best portion of doing this recipe is when you are about to decorate your cookies. Your kids will definitely enjoy this part. You may decorate it with colorful food paint.
During my search for easy-to-bake recipes, I found lots of recipes that do not entail baking. The recipes call for minimal stove action but still no baking in the oven is needed. Since summer is fast approaching, no-bake recipes are really good and fun ideas. They are relatively easy to do and almost all the recipes have similar main ingredients. Finally, my kid will also experience actual cooking.
My boy loves doing lots of mixing when he does his play-cooking, so what I do is allow him to scoop the mixture and place it over the parchment or wax paper. This activity will be fun and interesting because the kitchen will become a big mess. It”s totally fine as long as my son enjoys the day.
So what are you waiting for! Check out the World Wide Web for those easy to make recipes and have fun making them with your kids.

For many of us we have enjoyed the several different fresh fruits over the summer. From the fresh watermelon to cantaloupe to the fresh strawberries to kiwi to honeydew and the list goes on. Fruit is such a refreshing food that it can be enjoyed as a part of dinner or even as a dessert or an appetizer. Fruit is a staple that is served with everything. In fact I went to a hamburger place and ordered a burger and fries and with the meal came a slice of cantaloupe. From adults to children people love fruit.
Regardless of how we use the fruit over the summer it can be a sad time to see the fresh fruit season coming to an end and heading into the fall and winter months. The fresh fruits and vegetables seem to be what everyone misses the most. Now it is to the frozen, canned or bottled items for the fall and winter months. This seems to pacify us for the next 6 to 9 months. Then we know that the fresh fruit will be coming back again.
With these things in mind it is important to recognize that there are places in the United States that still have the nice weather and can still see the fresh fruits throughout the year. Of course, it can seem pretty expensive to take a trip to these places to get fresh fruit or to even take the option of ordering the fruits in. The exciting part is that there is another option to enjoying the fresh fruits throughout the year. You don”t have to go without for the next 6 to 9 months. There is the option of fresh fruit baskets. Not only can you enjoy the fresh fruit, but it can be a fun way to present the fresh fruit.
Whether you want it for a personal enjoyment or for several other occasions a fruit basket with fresh fruit can be the center of enjoyment. If you are getting married in the winter months and want fresh fruit just think of how cool it would be to not only have fresh fruit, but you have a fruit basket that is beautiful enough for a center piece or a decoration. Often times when we are serving food we have to figure out additional decorations to make the food table look fancy or cute, but with the fruit baskets you don”t have to worry about that. Fruit baskets can make life simple and be the center of conversation.

If your apartment is anything like mine, it”s extremely comfortable and makes it very easy to veg out on the couch and watch your waist line grow. It takes a little discipline to put down the potato chips and get in gear, but you can do it. A healthy lifestyle will not only help you look better, but you will also FEEL better. Both of these betters, will make you a happier and improve your overall quality of life.
There are a number of ways to promote healthy living other than just hitting the gym. It all starts with getting in good habits while you eat. To get you on the right track, here are a few common good eating ideas to follow:
1.)Eat Dinner Before 7:30 and try to cut your portion size. Most people eat one of their largest meals at dinner and then sit on the couch for the rest of the night. Doing this later than 7:30 can be one of the worst things for you. If you cut your portion size, eat early and try to be more active in the evening, you are less likely to expand your waist as much.
2.)Do Not Snack After Dinner or within 3 hours of bedtime. Your body needs time to digest your last meal and burn off some of that food before you go to sleep. If you eat too close to bedtime, you are much less active after eating and your body is more likely to store fat.
3.)Avoid eating too many sugar items, starches, and fats…yes….this includes beer, french fries, potato chips and cake. All of these items can be okay in fine moderation, but if you make a habit of eating anything high in sugar, starch and fat and it can be disastrous to your waist line and health.
4.) Avoid Overeating- Listen to your body and when you feel full…STOP EATING. Save the left-overs for the family dog. Before getting a second helping, let your body rest for a few minutes and see how full you feel. Most of the time, the fullness just hadn”t hit you yet. Portion control can be a valuable weapon in the battle for your health.
5.) Snack Attack- Before snacking, really evaluate your hunger level and think about when was your last and when is your next meal. Often you”re just thirsty or bored and a glass of water or an activity will help you get over the snack attack. If you find yourself really needing a snack at your desk, try fresh fruit or shelled sunflower seeds. Both are great snacking items that can suppress your hunger. Just like anything else though…snack in moderation.
6.) Chew More- It”s a proven fact that if you chew more, you will end up eating less. So count your chews and make sure you chew at least 20 times for every bite. This will in turn help you eat slower and give your body time to react to ingesting food and feel full.
All of these eating tips are great at helping you eat right. You may be very health savvy and already know all of these tips, but hopefully these very basic tips help out those who weren”t aware. A healthy lifestyle in your apartment really isn”t that difficult if you give it a little effort. The results will be well worth it.
