Memories Of The Warm Cookies Baking In The Oven

By Art Gib

Imagine walking in the door of your home after school or coming home from work and you get the smell of warm cookies baking in the oven. Then the timer goes off and your mom or wife pulls that pan of fresh baked cookies out of the oven. You just can”t wait to eat those warm cookies. Think of the feelings that you have when you walk inside the home and smell those cookies. You know you are home. You know that your mom or wife loves you and that you are excited to be home. Most of us have had that memory or experience at some point of in our lives.

Cookies are a staple in the home that everyone looks forward to. Of course, there are the packaged cookies that you can buy off the shelf at any grocery store, but those cookies just don”t stir up the emotions and feelings that a fresh baked cookie creates. Alright, now it might not be realistic to think that your wife or mom have time to bake up fresh cookies everyday. They might even be working themselves or the work at home could be enough to keep them busy and not have the time to make up the cookie dough and bake off those cookies.

Even with all of the reasons that we can come up with to not make fresh baked cookies there is still an option to have those fresh baked cookies that will give you that warm, fuzzy feeling that you have when you walk in the house and smell them. There are the cookie franchises that when you walk through the mall or stop by their store you get those same feelings. It”s almost impossible to resist the smell of those fresh baked cookies that are exactly like the ones you would be baking at home.

Then just think of being able to enjoy the fresh baked cookies from the cookie franchise and then purchasing more of those warm cookies to take home to your family. They will think you are a hero and love you just as much as if you had baked those cookies in your own oven and slaved over making the cookie dough and spending all those hours in the kitchen. Cookie franchises are a great option to enjoying those warm, fuzzy feelings that we all enjoy without the labor and time in the kitchen.

How Much Does it Cost to Open a Restaurant?

By Amy Nutt

Not only does opening a restaurant involve time, energy, and a lot of preparation, it also involves a significant amount of financial investing. There is no fixed price on the amount it costs to open a restaurant because the costs depends on a number of factors that include the size of the restaurant and the number of seats, location of the establishment, type of food being served, the equipment required, and the type of restaurant. Depending on what you want, it can range from as little as $25,000 to over a million dollars.

Location: Fees to lease an establishment can vary not only to a local location, but also across the country. A large city may charge $40.00 per square foot, while a rural location may be cheaper. You also have to consider taxes, insurance, and maintenance costs which can vary. One industry standard is that leasehold costs run “about 9% to 11% of annual sales.”

Size: Costs can also vary according to the number of seats in the restaurant. A small dining establishment with 30 seats will cost much less than a large establishment with 200 seats.

Type of Food Served: Costs will vary according to the type of food you serve. For instance, a lobster and steak restaurant will have higher costs than a fast food restaurant. The equipment costs will vary as well. For instance, equipment to make high end seafood meals can cost thousands of dollars. A small coffee shop will have minimum equipment costs. If you require a large walk in refrigerator/freezer, the costs can run up to $25, 000. The prices from restaurant suppliers will vary.

Permits: You also have to factor in regulation costs. Maintaining all of the various governmental regulations such as health and safety codes can run you thousands of dollars depending on the type of permit and how much you need to do to comply. Permit fees range from several hundred to a couple of thousand dollars.

Cosmetic Features: You will want your restaurant looking its best. This will include fixtures, paint, pictures, lights, table clothes, dinnerware…etc. Depending on what type of restaurant you have, this can cost you tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Marketing/Advertising: To get your restaurant name out to the public, you have to spend money on advertising. This can include: radio, television, newspapers, magazines…and more. This is money that is considered an investment with the return being customers. It is a necessary expense to the success and survival of the restaurant.

Inventory: You will need such up-front items as food, beverages, ingredients, cookware…etc. Depending on the type of restaurant, acquiring all of these items by opening day can cost a lot of money. It can run up to $10, 000 or more.

The key to having a successful restaurant opening is to create a list of all of the costs involved. This will allow you to establish a plan with a sound budget that takes unexpected costs into consideration. By planning your restaurant carefully, you will have a successful and profitable opening that will be remembered by all those attending the event.

I Bought A 2 HP High Performance Blender; Now What?

By Thomas Fox

When I bought my first high performance blender, luckily Costco was the one that had previously agreed to take it back within 6 months after the purchase. The return was not initiated because I didn”t like it. It was because I realized that I had spent $400 for a blender that I didn”t use.

At the first moments of excitement unpacking the white 2 hp model 5000 we slapped in some ingredients and seconds later evaluated our first smoothie experience. Then rather quickly with much self-approving and nodding heads, we agreed to use it again soon. Days went buy, still nodding heads, proudly looking at the noisy monster as if it was an achievement having spent $ 400, we planned on further smoothies. And suddenly it was 5 months later when this thing stared at me, yelling: “Six Months Return Policy”… and off it went into the box and back to Costco.

Does this somewhat seem familiar to you? In fact, I bet you a 60% chance is that you experienced your smoothie-making frequency in a similar way. Just today, I spoke with a customer who said that he was hoping for his Vita Mix wet blade assembly to arrive soon so he can make a smoothie before the summer ends. And in addition, I have noticed that container and blade sales are up in summer. Why is that?

Our educated guess is that most people who have a blender do not use it all the time. And these people do not even realize that they have a 2 hp or 3 hp high performance blender. This is nut just any blender. Such Vita Mix, Waring, or Blendtec power emulsifier breaks down the ingredients into cellular levels to enhance the nutritional consumption. Yet 60% of consumers don”t use their small kitchen appliances and some others believe their power blender makes great ice cream (only). At least, that latter is a popular use.

The serious raw food enthusiast is quite different when first purchasing the blender. Some people take time to learn about the blender”s capabilities. They investigate recipes and ingredients” functionality (functional foods) and best organic sources. And when the blender stands proudly on the counter it is worshiped and then used on a daily basis. Only those people who are not serious about their food intake look at the blender as an ice cream machine or a summer-cool-off smoothie maker.

In our experience, if you don”t want the blender to end up in the closet or on eBay, loosing money, use it. By using it you will discover new tastes, new recipes, and your body will start feeling better. And only so, you will start using your blender daily. Soon you will want to move up to a 3 hp blender or even a 3.5 hp blender. And you cannot imagine your nutrition-life without a blender any longer.

When deciding to get a blender, picture your health improving and focus on the fresh raw ingredients that you will learn about. Begin your new lifestyle with the attitude of learning and experimenting. For example, cabbage is a sweet tasting vegetable. When however blended in a 2 hp or 3 hp blender, it becomes sharp-hot tasting. So, when you put your recipes together, do it with the goal in mind that you will get to know new tastes. On several occasions I made smoothies that tasted horrible. I felt like tossing the whole thing, but lots of expensive ingredients went into it. I was forced to add some more ingredients to make it at least somewhat consumable. As a result I had learned what to use and what not to use. Today I have my favorite smoothie.

When deciding which one of the high performance blenders you should get, Costco offers at times a Vita Mix 5200 2 hp blender for $395 plus tax, or a Blendted 3 hp Total Blender for $379 plus tax. Waring makes a 3.5 hp commercial blender also, just like the Blendtec and Vita Mix 2 hp 4500 Turbo Blender, which are starting in the mid $300 dollars.

Take your time to investigate carefully which blender you might feel comfortable with. Some are manually operated and others are electronically operated which also feature pre-programmed blending cycles. Compare your apples with apples. In our experience, you really usually get what you pay for.

By Jeff D McQueen

Chicken breast aside from being really healthy is a great piece of chicken meat that is so flexible because of the many ways that you can prepare them. They”re low in fat and are cooked quickly. Chicken Breast Enchiladas

Shred chicken by placing two forks back to back and pulling meat apart. Set the shredded chicken aside. Meanwhile, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and chili powder in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, then turn off the heat and cover to keep warm.

2. Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat.Stir in the onion; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the shredded chicken, chopped green chilies, taco seasoning, half of the bunch of chopped green onion, and water. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in the lime juice, onion powder, and garlic powder;simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

3. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).Stir 1 cup of the soup mixture into the skillet with the chicken mixture. Spread the remaining soup mixture on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.

4. Fill each tortilla with chicken mixture. Sprinkle Cheddar cheese on the chicken filling before folding the tortillas, reserving half of the shredded cheese for topping the enchiladas. Fold tortillas over the filling and place seam-side down in the prepared pan.

5. Pour enchilada sauce evenly over the enchiladas. Cover with the remaining 1 1/2 cups of Cheddar cheese. Sprinkle the reserved chopped green onions and the sliced olives atop the cheese. Bake in the preheated oven until filling is heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbling, about 25 minutes.

Themed Restaurants for Children

By Amy Nutt

Over the years, restaurants for children have grown in popularity. Many of these restaurants that cater to kids have a wide variety of games, books, parties, and themed events such as birthday parties, entertainers, and much more.

The following are some of the most popular themed restaurants for children:

1. Elephant Bar Restaurant: This is a fun restaurant for kids. They offer a Jr. Explorer”s Club, which encourages academic achievement, books about animals for kids to read while they are waiting for their food, and distribute crayons to children in a cup that is shaped like an elephant foot. As well, they now offer healthier choice meals for children.

2. Chuck E. Cheese”s: They provide games, rides, prizes, food, and entertainment designed for children of all ages. They offer great food for the entire family such as baked pizzas and a fresh salad bar. There are special events for birthdays, play groups, organizations such as scouts and youth groups, and school fundraising events. There is fun recreational equipment for running, jumping, and climbing. There are also video games and high tech simulator rides, and kiddie rides. The game rooms are sectioned off for older kids and younger children.

3. The Rainforest Cafe Restaurants: The restaurants are decorated to depict features of a rainforest, including plant growth, mist, waterfalls, animatronics robots of animals and insects. Large marine aquariums are common in most restaurants. Automated water sprinklers and synchronized lights set to exact patterns are also featured. A simulated thunderstorm occurs every thirty minutes, utilizing simulated rain as well as flashing lights and high-powered subwoofers for lightning and thunder. The cafes feature a talking tree named Tracy that gives facts about the rainforests. The restaurants are divided into several rooms using rain curtains that fall into basins running along the tops of partition walls and booths. As well, rainforest themed merchandise is sold. The Rainforest Cafe has food that includes seafood, beef, chicken, pastas, and pizzas.

4. McDonald”s Restaurants: The McDonalds food chain is world renowned for catering to children. These restaurants feature large indoor or outdoor playgrounds, called “McDonald”s PlayPlace” (if indoors) or “Playland” (outdoors). Some PlayPlace playgrounds have been renovated into “R Gym” areas. “R Gyms” are in-restaurant play areas that features interactive game zones designed for children aged 4 to 11. They are equipped with stationary bicycles attached to video games, dance pads, basketball hoops, monkey bars, an obstacle course, and other games. The “R Gym” features the Toddler Zone, an active play environment with age appropriate games that develop physical coordination. The Active Zone, designed for children aged four-to-eight, promotes physical fitness through fun play. The Sports Zone features a series of sport oriented activities to promote aerobic exercise for children aged 9 to 11. The Parent Zone features seating and a monitoring area for their children.

Restaurants that cater to children make the dining experience much more fun and entertaining for the kids and the adults. Fortunately, these restaurants are meeting consumer demands for healthier foods for their children by adding healthy options to their menus.

The Art Of Imbibing – How To Enjoy Wines

By Tristan Andrews

Modern science, when applied to the millennia old art of wine making, has let the great vineyards of the world produce many vintages which to not need to age in their bottles for extended periods before reaching the peaks of flavor and aroma. But the question remains of how to store other vintages for which the journey to perfection will take more time.

A wine cellar is the perfect answer for those who have both the space and the money to indulge in one. For the rest of us, though, something more modest will have to do, and any wine storage which is to succeed will have to be done at the proper wine storage temperature.

Finding the correct wine storage temperature is not really mystery; warm is bad; cool is good. Heat will cause wine to deteriorate just as it causes fresh fruits, vegetable, meats, and dairy products to deteriorate. On the other hand, going to far in the chilly direction can also be dangerous; frozen wine, unlike frozen grape juice, does not a Popsicle make. Frozen wine, in fact, loses forever its aroma and taste.

Color Coded Temperatures

One of the factors which should influence your choice of wine storage temperatures is the color of the liquid in the wine bottle. Is it white, or red, or something in between? Once a bottle of wine has been fetched from wherever you keep it during its long nap, you want it at the optimum serving temperature before you drink it.

Red wines should not be served chilled; the cold will rob the wine of its ability to dazzle your palate with all the sublet tones and nuances of its flavors and aromas. A temperature of about 65F, or 18C, will show off your merlots, pinots, and burgundies to their best advantage.

White wines and blushes are to red wines what ice is to blood; they need to be thoroughly chilled before serving if they are to have any impact whatsoever. No matter their wine storage temperature where you have been keeping them, get them to 39 F, or 4C, before taking the first sip.

Enjoying The Drink

All wines, no matter their color and their wine storage temperatures, should be given a chance to breathe after they have been opened. They should be allowed at least fifteen minutes; thirty would be much better, of exposure to the air before they are poured and consumed, and they should never, ever, ever be swallowed without being allowed some intimacy with the drinker”s mouth and tongue. If you are brave enough, or drinking alone, you can even try trilling – gently gargling the wine so that it comes into contact with every part of your mouth.

Fine Dining with Children – What You Need to Know

By Amy Nutt

Dining at a luxury restaurant is a wonderful way to relax and have great wine and food. Many parents have concerns about taking their children to a fine dining restaurant. Below are a number of tips to help make your fine dining experience with children pleasurable and not embarrassing.

1. If you have made a reservation several days or a week before, you can practice good behavior and manners with your children at home. Help them learn to say ”thank you,” and ”please.” Use positive reinforcement techniques. As well, if they are old enough, you will have to teach them to use cutlery and drink a beverage without spilling it. As well, if they are old enough, you can teach them how to properly order food. When you reserve a table, ask for a corner table for privacy.

2. When you arrive and park at the restaurant, it is time to have one more gentle and positive talk about how the children are to behave. Explain that they cannot yell, scream, and run around at the restaurant. Remind them that they have to consider the other people dining.

3. It can be a real hassle and distraction taking children to the restroom at a fine dining restaurant. Before you arrive, make sure the children have gone to the restroom.

4. When most people attend a fine dining restaurant, it tends to be between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. This can be very late for children who may get hungry and cranky. Bring some snacks such as carrots or apple pieces for them to munch on while waiting for the main meal. While you are waiting for your meal, have some activity books such as crossword puzzles or coloring books to keep them occupied. Include the children in the table conversation. You can also ask your server for some bread or crackers for the children. To make ordering faster and easier, make sure you know what your children like and don”t have them experiment with new or spicy foods.

5. Children are curious and love to pick things up and put them in their mouths. Keep candles, sugar packets, cutlery such as knives and forks, and flower displays out of their reach. For very young children, take along a bib, bottles or a child”s special ”sippy” cup for drinking. Use high chairs safely.

6. When the meal arrives, look after the children first. Cut the meal up in small pieces for better eating. Make sure you have ordered the beverage to come with the meal. When the children are finished, ask the server to take their plates out of the way. If your children are anxious, skip dessert.

7. Very young children do not like to sit for a long period of time. Once everyone has finished eating, it may be a good time to leave. Older children will be able to sit for a certain period of time before they start getting fidgety and want to leave.

8. Be patient and try not to let small incidents bother you. Children can pick up on frustration.

Fine dining is a wonderful way to spend the evening. When taking children to an elegant restaurant, you greatly improve the chances of having a successful meal without any unpleasant incidents by planning ahead.

How To Prevent Or Recover From A Hangover

By Mike Nielsen

They are never good, and we all seem to forget how awful they are in the midst of one well after they are over. the day following my night of binge drinking.

Why Is My Head Pounding? Why am I Nauseated? Why me?

Because of the way alcohol is on a molecular level, alcohol consumption dries our bodies out leaving us severely dehydrated causing headaches, fatigue and vomiting. You have heard horror stories of individuals who are out at sea on a life raft waiting to be rescued and are severely dehydrated because they do not have drinking water.

Hangover Prevention. The Best Thing to Do Before You Even Start Drinking

After I had recovered from my hangover, I remembered the last moments before I began to get tired and fall asleep. You need to analyze your drinking habits and figure out the moment where you are drinking too much. Through self exploration and analysis, you will only learn which tools are for you through careful examination of your drinking behavior and understanding of who you are as a person. Once you reach the top and start your way down you cannot go back. After the “Goldschlager incident”, I experienced other hangovers too.

By creating this essential boundary, you are making yourself responsible and understand that one simply cannot have a seemingly endless amount of alcohol consumption without a hangover or potentially serious consequences. These measures are essential to preventing hangovers. You should also figure out what your limit in drinking is as well. Had I stopped drinking at that moment, I probably still would have had a hangover, but I would have recovered from it faster, and may not have experienced such a horrendous hangover. Perhaps you don”t see double though. It is my hope you learned some of the tools in this section on how to prevent a hangover from occurring.

In the Midst of a Hangover:The Moment Where You Wish You Didn”t Drink So Much

At the same time, our body needs it to finish the processes of cellular respiration. Literally, 10 repeats of this incident, I finally was able to fall back asleep. Drinking this during a hangover will likely help you recover from a hangover faster. If you find this is the case, there is a wonderful liquid product called Pedialyte that they sell in most stores. After vomiting, pain from a headache began to take over me, and I felt my body fall back against the side of the bathroom stall. If you find that there is too much light in the room, you should either pull the drapes or hang a dark sheet in the window to prevent any light from entering the room. Sleep will allow your body to recover from the hangover, and you will feel refreshed from it once you have climbed out from under the hangover. Sometimes when you are drinking, you may start experiencing hangover symptoms before you have finished drinking. Drinking orange juice will manually pump any extra alcohol in your stomach out through vomiting and will prevent your hangover from getting any worse. However, despite these feelings, you must continue to drink water even after you vomit.

Friends Are Important. Especially in the Midst of a Hangover

If not to make sure that you do in fact recover, they should be there to give you sympathy and compassion while you vomit all of the alcohol you drank, yesterday”s dinner and lunch, and of course, to be your cheering corner when you are dry heaving. Friends should also make sure that you are making it to the bathroom when you need to vomit. Good friends, as so many of us college binge drinkers know, will hold our long hair back for us if we vomit, will practically carry us home and will make sure our overly drunken selves will make it home safely after a night of serious drinking. Having a cheering squad while you recover from a hangover will help you to recover quickly so you can enjoy the rest of the day. If you have a friend kind enough to stay with you while you recover, you should make sure that they understand exactly what they should be looking for while you recover.

After the Hangover:The Sun Has Come Out, but You Cannot Forget the Storm

Once most people have recovered from a hangover, they are so excited the hangover is over that they quickly forget how horrendous it was. There are many ways to prevent them through analyzing your body chemistry and the way you interact with specific and general types of alcohol, through creating boundaries or limitations of what you can drink, and by figuring out your personal “point of no return” when you have had too much to drink. Doing so will prevent future hangovers from reoccurring. Was it drinking excessive amounts of water before or after you fell asleep? Was it excessive sleeping combined with fresh air? You should figure out what worked to help you quickly recover from a hangover if you are to quickly recover from one in the future, (because you probably will have another one until you realize exactly how to prevent it within your body chemistry). One loses the ability to quickly analyze why they were hung over to begin with.

Getting Over A Hangover?

By Mike Nielsen

As a college freshman, the only lesson I learned from the whole experience was the fact I can no longer discuss Goldschlager nor look at the liquor inside the bottle without feeling the need of having to vomit once more. They are debilitating, sickening and most of all remind us how stupid it was to drink so heavily the night before.

Hangovers Are A Sign That You Have Reached Your Limit
Once you reach the top and start your way down you cannot go back. You should also figure out what your limit in drinking is as well. When this occurs, you need to decide on your own limits or boundaries for what you can ingest. Creating a limit for yourself is one of the most positive and responsible things you can do as a social drinker. There were other drinking binges as well, but these two incidents burned into my memory.
By creating this essential boundary, you are making yourself responsible and understand that one simply cannot have a seemingly endless amount of alcohol consumption without a hangover or potentially serious consequences. It is like a rollercoaster ride in the sense that you are traveling up a hill slowly.

After experiencing a life altering hangover, many individuals will decide that they just shouldn”t drink. Maybe my experiences are completely different than yours. I feel asleep feeling nauseated and of course, woke up the next day with a hangover. For example, I know right now that I can never consume Goldschlager ever again.

Facing The Hangover Head On
For hangovers, it can be the difference of having a hangover experience or not having one. Drinking orange juice will manually pump any extra alcohol in your stomach out through vomiting and will prevent your hangover from getting any worse. Once you have had a full glass of water, you may start to vomit all of the alcohol you have consumed throughout the night. Hopefully, you are reading this and stating to yourself, “That has happened to me.

Quickly replenishing your body of fluids will help you recover from your “dehydrated state” faster. ” If this has happened to you, then you know that horrible feeling of despair that consumes you when you are in the midst of a hangover. Climbing out of my top bunk bed, I staggered down the ladder and started towards the door. Literally, 10 repeats of this incident, I finally was able to fall back asleep. Once you realize that you are experiencing a hangover, you should turn off all of the lights in the room. Most people will find these three things to be invaluable tools aiding them in their hangover recovery.

Find Your Sanctuary Especially in the Midst of a Hangover
If a friend is with you, they can help you look at yourself objectively and figure out these important aspects to your drinking behavior and/or your hangover recovery. While it may seem over the top to have a friend monitor you while you recover from a hangover, I cannot stress this enough that it is absolutely essential especially when you are recovering from an obviously high amount of alcohol consumption. Excessive alcohol consumption can give people alcohol poisoning, so it is completely necessary to have a friend stay with you while you recover. As we discussed earlier, these aspects are essential to understanding your body and your hangovers.
If you have a friend kind enough to stay with you while you recover, you should make sure that they understand exactly what they should be looking for while you recover.

After the Hangover: When You Need Shelter From The Storm
As we have discussed in previous sections, analyzing why and how a hangover was caused is essential to preventing them from happening in the future. Once you have realized the mechanism for how you wound up so hung over, you must then address what worked for you in your hangover state. Those who reflect on their experience tend to not repeat it in the future. Hangovers are embarrassing, debilitating, frustrating and simply heinous.
There are many ways to prevent them through analyzing your body chemistry and the way you interact with specific and general types of alcohol, through creating boundaries or limitations of what you can drink, and by figuring out your personal “point of no return” when you have had too much to drink.

What Snacks Can be Used in a Healthy Snack Fundraiser

By Alec Moreland

A healthy Fundraiser is a great concept. But when you are out planning one for your school or neighborhood, executing it is a lot more difficult. Fundraisers which sell high calorie food items such as chocolates, fries, burgers and the like have increasingly led to serious health problems in children such as obesity or even Type-2 diabetes. As a result, many states in the United States of America have banned such chocolate fundraisers in schools. While there is no all-encompassing federal law banning such fundraisers yet, they still make very little sense from both the legal and the health perspective. Chances are, you have a family too. Would you want your kids to be affected by such long term problems high fat and high calorie foods bring?

Before setting out to plan a healthy fundraiser, you need to know what it is. A healthy fundraiser moves away from the concept of selling high fat and sugar food items to children in favor of healthier alternatives. While we all know that there is no dearth of healthy foods, it is much tougher to get food items that combine great taste with health benefits. Since children will never go in for food that compromises taste for health, a wrongly planned healthy fundraiser could end up being a failure from the financial point of view. Hence, you need to have a fair idea of the type of snacks that can be used in a healthy fundraiser.

With health concerns on the rise throughout the country, healthier snack items have come to the fore now like never before. A good example is the cereal bar. These bars often combine great taste with the extensive health benefits that cereals bring along with them. When planning the items for your healthy fundraiser, the best approach is to go for packs comprising of such types of snacks. Other similar snacks that you can go for include Rice Krispies Treats, Corn Nuts, Reduced fat Cheeze-its which cut out the fat but retain the cheesy taste and different types of flavored corn nuts that are sure to stimulate the taste buds of every child attending the fundraiser.

When you are finalizing the snack list for your fundraiser, do keep in mind the calorific values of all the snacks you plan to include. Fat and sugar content should be quite low, ideally below 35%. Additionally, you should only choose snacks that have very little saturated fats (as little as possible). The number of calories should also be within an acceptable limit, 250 calories or less.

When you organize a healthy fundraiser, organize a collection of snacks into packets and keep the option of different packets for different prices.
