Why An Espresso Machine is a Perfect Gift for Dad

By Lili Rousso

When it”s gifting time for your dad, what do you usually turn to? Another tie? Golf balls? Maybe some new fishing tackle? Honestly, are we just a little bit bored yet?

Next time you want to buy a gift for Dad, consider a home espresso machine. In most families, kitchen appliances aren”t really the first thing that comes to mind when buying Dad a gift. Let”s look at why this gift makes perfect sense:

1. An espresso machine is a gadget at heart, and dads love gadgets

Think about it. What possession is your dad most proud of? Maybe it”s his fishing box, full of little furry gizmos and thingy-bobs. Or maybe it”s his iPad or iPhone, and he”s constantly discovering new apps to play with. If his passion is golf, then he probably has some nifty cleat cleaners and ball scrubbers. The point is these are all gadgets. Dads love gadgets. The more buttons and settings they have, the better.

Give him an espresso maker, and he will love setting it up, trying it out and learning all the various features.

2. An espresso machine is a power tool, and you know how dads feel about those!

First, it plugs in. Second, it makes great noises when the water is heating, the beans are grinding, and the espresso is brewing. Do you really want to make Dad feel special? Consider a model with several different settings and variations; he”ll spend more time in the kitchen than Rachel Ray!

3. Using an espresso machine is not a chore, it”s a hobby

If you are a fan of making gourmet espresso at home, you already understand all the additional gadgets and accessories you can enjoy. Just imagine how much fun Dad will have with his new espresso maker, trying out different blends, finding fun toppings, and picking out just the perfect cups for his morning treat.

Part gadget, part power tool, part fun hobby: an espresso machine makes a great choice for any dad! So skip the ties and the golf tees this year, and get him a gift that will bring him enjoyment all year long.

5 Ways to Save Money on Groceries (Food Shopping)

By Dan McCarthy

Always write a list – If you don”t take a list, you will be throwing your money away. Preparing a list of all the things you need and making sure you have everything that”s needed for your weekly menu is important. Check everything in your cupboards, pantry, fridge and freezer. Make sure that you haven”t forgotten anything. The most important thing about the list is that when you take it you need to stick to it. Don”t be tempted by specials, no matter how yummy they might look on the outside of the packaging. Another way to counter the specials problem is to allow for a small budget of $20 that can be spent on only on extra specials or things you forgot on your list.

Plan your weekly menu – Planning out your weekly menu can be the best way to make sure that your list is totally complete; it also allows you to have enough to serve your family tea or dinner for the whole week. You can plan a menu and then duplicate the menu for the next week, if it works. Also remember to plan a leftovers night.

Don”t go shopping when you”re hungry – Going shopping when you”re hungry is a pretty stupid thing to do. If you go shopping when you”re hungry you will end up buying junk food and food that is bad for you.

Having a budget – Having a budget is important when you go to the supermarket; you need to know exactly how much you have to spend without going over. Try your very best to stick to it. If you go shopping with no budget in mind, you will always spend far too much. Ticking things off the list as you go will ensure that you don”t go over budget.

Make a checklist of your pantry or cupboards – It”s a good idea to make a checklist of all the things that are normally inside your cupboards or pantry. Stick it to the outside of your pantry, make notes on the paper so you know when you have run out of a particular item. You don”t need to do this with everything, just the main items that you use all the time.

3 Insider Tips For Creating Great Restaurant Advertising Slogans, Taglines and Headlines

By Richie Davis

“When You”re Here You”re Family.”
“No Rules. Just Right.”
“Think Outside The Bun.”

You probably know, in an instant, which restaurants are associated with the slogans above without even seeing their name. In just a few words, the right slogan, tagline or advertising headline can sum an entire restaurant”s message. The best lines are remembered for years, if not decades, and can play a key role in restaurant branding and helping to cement diner loyalty.

Not many restaurant marketing experts would argue that slogans and taglines are one of the few marketing elements that stand the test of time. Along with your logo, your slogan or tagline should be playing an important role in defining how you”re perceived.

While the biggest restaurant chains have the luxury of being able to hire top marketing firms and restaurant advertising agencies to develop their slogans and taglines, small and medium-sized restaurant groups are usually left finding alternate means to come up with a slogan. This includes everything from hiring the CEO”s “creative sister” to holding employee slogan writing contests. Some companies even choose to reword the slogan of their chief competitor “just enough so no one will notice.”

Tisk. Tisk.

The result is usually some kind of Frankenstein-type wordplay or something so bland it means nothing to anyone. Slogans like “Serving Delicious Waffles Since 1970″ and “Where diners comes first” are tired, hollow phrases that probably do more to hurt the brand than help. They portray the associated restaurant group as just another company with nothing special to say of offer. They get no results.

So here are three tips to help you come up with your ever-important slogan, tagline or ad headline.

Your Slogan Should Convey An Emotion, Not Information – Research consistently shows diners make decisions based on how a message makes them feel. Little if any factual analysis takes place. The reason McDonald”s uses, “I”m lovin” it” instead of “quality hamburgers as affordable prices” is because the first slogan gets you excited and feeling good. The second is flat and uninspiring.

Less is More – Nike”s “Just Do It” encapsulated an entire life philosophy in three simple words. It connected with its target and helped generate billions in revenue. Instead of trying to say everying, focus on one simple message delivered in a short, compelling phrase. Budweiser famously used the slogan “True” for years with great results. Do your best to get your message across in less than ten words.

Let The Games Begin – The hottest trend in marketing now is something called crowd-sourcing. This involves tournaments where professionals compete to solve a problem. often doing the initial work for free. Websites currently exist that allow you to open a slogan, tagline or headline contest and have professional writers compete to write your slogan, all for one, low set fee (the prize award) you put up in advance. Do a Google search for “slogan tagline writers compete” to start your journey into crowd-sourcing.

If you”re a restaurant marketing director or restaurant owner, a great slogan can be an amazing tool to galvanize diners and woo franchisees. So get that great line and improve your “line” of work immeasurably.

Some Information About The Raw Food Detox Diet

By Lance Thorington

Most of the information about the raw food detox diet can be found on the Internet or in published form in a book of the same name published by author Natalia Rose. This diet, as defined by Rose, consists of five levels of food with variations in the percentage of raw food that is consumed at each level. Dieters can decide at which level to begin and progress through the stages as desired.

A dieter can enter the program at Level 5 which is the most lenient. In this phase, you eat approximately 3/4 of your food choices from raw foods. This level includes foods that are cooked in one meal each day. A typical choice is a vegetarian dish such as pasta. Level five allows moderate animal products which might be selected from fish, chicken or eggs, but goat cheese is the only dairy product permitted.

At the other end or the levels is Level 1. It is the most severe. It consists only of juices, raw vegetables and raw fruits until the evening meal. On most days the dinner meal is also a raw vegan repast, but salmon is permitted once per week.

The raw food diet is a totally different way of eating for most people. You may find that you can”t progress to the more strict levels comfortably, but that”s acceptable, since the program is meant to be used at your own comfort level. Because the body naturally cleanses and detoxifies itself over time, you will usually find that you feel better and lose weight at the same time, but it may be a more gentle pace than with other types of eating regimens.

Contrary to popular belief, you don”t need to eat 100 percent raw foods in order to benefit from the diet. Keeping some cooked food helps to prevent detoxification that is overly rapid. Cooked foods are also helpful to maintain emotional satisfaction in the foods you eat. Getting bored with a meal choice too quickly will be detrimental in staying on the diet.

There are some disadvantages to the raw food diet. This is not a diet for those people who must eat out often, Meals are prepared fresh and from scratch in most instances. If you are sensitive to carbohydrates or to grains, the diet is not for you. The early phases of the diet include large amounts of grain and pasta. There are numerous rules to follow in order to avoid combining foods incorrectly. In many instances, you must purchase a juicer or other kitchen equipment, which can be costly. Finally, the diet doesn”t recommend exercise, so it is unbalanced in one sense.

On the other side of the equation, there are many good features about the diet. The wide variety of foods included means it is better balanced nutritionally than many other weight loss or detox diets. Desserts are allowed on all levels with certain restrictions. A specific kind of chocolate is allowed as a treat. Dieters can proceed at their own pace.

The raw food detox diet is healthy eating at its best, but it is not for everyone. You don”t have to be a vegetarian or vegan to enjoy the diet, but it helps. Even though there is little cooking in the later levels of the diet, you have the opportunity to eat a wide variety of nutritious and delicious foods.

Throughout the country there are business meetings that take place inside the office during a particular time of the day. While many presentations take place in the morning and afternoon there are some scheduled events that require the executive and professional to attend a conference during meal times. For a number of owners and entrepreneurs the networking possibilities that merge different people in a social setting outside of their headquarters, allow them to receive some training in addition to the opportunity to mix and mingle with other experts from various fields and industries.

During either an appointed breakfast or lunch period the schedules of executives permit for the interactions with other people without detracting from the appointments that fill their day. Using a catering service Atlanta corporations and networking groups build a continual platform of ongoing commercial introductions where people involved in the community can address the captivated audience and deliver a speech that is inspirational or educationally geared toward the advancement of the efforts of the individual enterprise.

The Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Rotary Club, and other entrepreneurially supported organizations often have a monthly luncheon and other weekly scheduled activities that are attended during the early morning hours or at mid-day to encourage the growth of their members and give presentations that are related to the successful incorporation of ideas that are geared toward the target audience. The subject of these training sessions may be centered on how to establish a returning client base; how to effectively use the internet to attract consumers; proper accounting principles; or other informative instruction that relates to the small business owner and what they can implement to have a greater level of achievement within the community.

At the end of the meeting attendees are encouraged to visit with one another and exchange cards or contact information. In some cases leads are passed around between those that are looking for a specific service and those whom they have just met that offer the product or service in question. Understanding the Development of the MRE

By Tommy Greene

The struggle to properly and fully feed all of the American troops is still underway. Even though hundreds of vast improvements have been made to the system, researchers still find that many of the United States troops do not meet their necessary quota for daily consumption due to trading what they do not like or simply throwing away various portions of their meal.

One of the most recent improvements made to the MRE”s is an increase in the macronutrients found within the food to maximize the number of kilocalories that a service man consumes. Despite many efforts like these the service members are still not getting enough of the necessary nutrients.

Other changes include the addition of spices such as salt and specially designed MRE”s for particular squadrons. For example, the First Strike Ration and HOOAH! Bar were developed specifically for those who will be performing elite or special force tasks.

These meals are lighter than the normal MRE and do not require any preparation since these groups of troops are generally always on the go. The MRE”s can be stored for three years without spoiling and contain 1,200 calories per meal.

A troop member can be expected to eat these meals for 21 consecutive days. While they can eat these meals longer, it is expected that they will have access to a hot, prepared meal before their 21 days are up.

The packages on the MRE”s are strictly regulated. They must be able to stay sealed after a 380 meter parachute drop and a 30 meter non-parachute drop.

New methods of packaging are being considered because the current packaging is made of foil which is reflective and could give away the position of the service member. There are other problems associated with the foil as well.

Every MRE weighs no more than 26 ounces and no less than 18 ounces. The weight of the MRE will vary depending on which meal is in the package.

MRE”s contain water, which makes them heavier than freeze-dried meals. However, the number of calories provided in both forms of food storage is the same.

Soon after MRE”s were developed, they were sold to civilians as well. As a result, the Department of Defense maintains that the words “U.S. Government Property, Commercial Resale is Unlawful” be printed on every case of MREs.

However, there are no actual laws prevent the sale of MRE”s to civilians. Still the government is working to discourage sellers from selling the MRE”s to civilians.

eBay and other auction sites have continued to allow the sale of MRE”s because the Department of Defense has not been able to show them significant proof of a law that does not allow them to sell the MRE”s.

A twelve pack case of MRE”s can sell for $86.98 on eBay, which is about $7.25 per meal. This price is much more than what is paid by a vendor.

This is a fantastic profit for MRE providing companies. As a result, civilians can purchase the meals directly from those who supply the government as well.

However, the MRE”s sold to civilians are slightly different from those sold to the government. The food is essentially the same, but the design of the package or the spoon may be a little different.

If you ever purchase an MRE and plan to take it on a plan, be careful not to open it before you get there. The Flameless Ration Heaters are prohibited and confiscated unless they are still in the original, sealed packaging.

The reason for this is that hydrogen fumes are given off through the chemical process of cooking the meal. A general list of what can be found in an MRE includes a main course, side dish, bread, dessert, and a flameless ration heater.

The seasonings that may be found in the package include salt, pepper, sugar, creamer, and Tabasco sauce depending on the meal. There are also several vegetarian meals available for those who are vegetarian or those who are simply tired of meat.

Today, the MRE”s undergo constant changes to provide a variety of meals and to meet changing tastes and trends among the troops. Changes are made based on the feedback the officials receive from the troops.

After decades of improvements and revisions, many of these meals are delicious. The United States government is striving to provide proper nutrients to our troops in fantastic tasting meals that they deserve.

Realizing the Benefits of Freeze Dried Food

By Terry Daniels

As people have become more aware of the need to maintain an up to date food storage freeze dried foods have grown vastly in popularity. In the beginning, the main foods that were part of food storage were the basic grains such as flour, sugar, wheat, and oatmeal.

These things could be stored in air tight cans and be preserved for many, many years. However, as people began to use their food storage and replace it with new foods, they realized that there was a need for a variety of food in their food storage.

As a result, new methods of food storage began to be developed in order to preserve more types of food. One of the most recent developments in methods to store food is a method called freeze drying.

Through this method fruits, vegetables, and other foods can be safely preserved to last for years while still holding their flavor and nutritional value. The variety of foods that freeze drying can preserved boosted the popularity of incorporating this method into food storage.

Freeze drying involves the dehydration of the food in a cooling vacuum. This vacuum removes moisture and air from food.

Without these components, moisture and air, the lifetime of these foods can be greatly lengthened. Studies have shown that the freeze dried foods can last for at least 25 years, with a significant amount last for more than 30 years.

This added shelf time is a huge benefit. Today, freeze dried foods can be found everywhere including the grocery store and the internet.

Another benefit of this type of food is that the shelf life of freeze dried food is that they last for many years pat the expiration date of other types of food processed through different methods. Due to the reduced amount of air and water within the package, the food is much easier to store in a smaller space.

This makes keeping and maintain food storage both feasible and possible for those who live in an apartment or mobile home. Freeze dried foods also tend to come in bulk sizes.

This means that for the amount of food you get, the price is cheaper. In addition, the only thing necessary to prepare freeze dried food is water.

This makes preparation much easier and the need to store extra ingredients much less. It has also been discovered that the amount of nutrition found in freeze dried food compared to canned or frozen foods is much, much higher than previously thought.

Freeze drying is so common in grocery stores as well that many people eat freeze dried foods daily with their normal food. These foods are also much lighter and easier to pack and carry.

This makes them very popular for extended hikes and camping trips. There are so many benefits to storing freeze dried food in combination with the traditional types of food storage.

Another advantage to freeze dried meals is that they are already cooked. Meanwhile, dehydrated foods are not cooked.

While both foods take water in their preparation, the dehydrated foods will require that you have a stove, oven, grill, or fire to cook on. However, in a disaster situation, you may not have access to any of these things.

In addition, water takes up a lot of food storage space. Freeze dried foods take less water than dehydration of the food.

This type of food is only becoming more popular as the economic depression and natural disaster concerns grow. People are realizing that there may come a time when there will be no way for them to get food other than from their own pantry.

Their family, and perhaps friends, will rely on them for daily life. This is a scary prospect and many people are preparing in case the worst sort of unexpected disaster occurs.

Hopefully you will not have to rely on your food storage, but if a disaster occurs, you will be prepared. Your family, friends, and yourself will have no reason to fear.

You will also experience a unique feeling of satisfaction as you use your food storage for good. The preparation, expense, and research that you have put into making will help you feel secure for the future.

There will be no need for you to fear starvation, no matter what happens. Freeze dried foods have already saved the lives of hundreds of thousands throughout the world.

Now they can save you too.

Raw Foods: What Can They Do For You?

By Lance Thorington

Raw foods are an eating choice that is popular with those who want to lose some weight. They are also selected when you want to avoid destroying some of the nutrients and enzymes that are destroyed by heat or by the water that you would typically use to cook foods. Another advantage of foods that are raw is that they are more likely to be fresh. This can be positive or negative, since you may have to shop more often to maintain fresh food supplies in your home. Of course, you could always plant a garden and always have the best tasting and nutritious foods.

When you eat ingredients, you are getting the results of plant chemicals known as phytochemicals. There is a great deal or research going on in laboratories or clinics. These chemicals are being explored for their role in presenting diseases such as heart disease and cancer. They are also being studied for effects on allergies, arthritis or asthma.

Foods that are uncooked tend to have fewer calories than those that are cooked. This is especially true if the foods are cooked in oils or fats. Adding cream, butter and drippings from meat or poultry adds significant calories with little nutritional value. If you are one of the millions of overweight children or adults, reducing your intake of cooked foods can make an effective diet plan.

Because foods that are raw tend to have a higher level of fiber, you can expect better colon health by switching to an uncooked food emphasis in your diet. The colon needs to work properly to help the body eliminate waste. The colon is the last stop for the digestive process. Fermented waste in this organ can lead to illness, constipation and obesity amongst others.

Because a raw diet usually contains a wide variety of nutrients, the health of your entire digestive system may be improved. The body systems work properly to extract the nutrients from the foods that you eat. When you are getting all the vitamins and minerals in the right form, your entire system will be working better.

Another nice benefit from a raw diet is clear skin. Clear skin is the result of healthy functioning of your body at the cellular level. Cells must be hydrated and must have the necessary energy to operate correctly. All the nutrients that you need can be found in a diet with plenty of variety.

There have been numerous epidemiological studies that look at diet and disease. In civilization such as those in China, Russia, Mediterranean and Africa where cultures consume diets rich in raw fruits and vegetables, many of the diseases of the West are virtually unknown. Although the diet rich in raw foods doesn”t have to completely eliminate cooked ingredients, it is still effective.

The raw foods diet is believed to improve mental and emotional health as well. The circulatory and digestive systems in proper operating order will improve memory and may even improve expectations of a longer life. Use of a raw diet will give you more energy and concentration in your daily tasks.

A Simple Raw Food Diet Menu

By Lance Thorington

With all the new dieting trends going around, many people are wondering what is the right diet that will assist them with weight loss, encourage better health, and yet at the same time, still taste good. There is a diet out there that fits all that criteria and is very simple to prepare because it involves no cooking whatsoever. Let”s take a look at the raw food diet menu.

The raw food diet consists of food that is essentially raw. People following this diet will eat fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans and in general anything that is organic and unprocessed. While this may sound like a boring diet, there are many simple recipes one can prepare that is tasty and nutritious. Following this diet will help you lose weight, digest your food better, increase your energy and help you to improve the appearance of your skin.

The first rule of the raw food diet is no cooking! None of the food can be heated up because it is believed that cooking will take away from the nutritional value of the food. But there are still many creative ways to prepare food that include dehydrating fruit, or putting your favorite fruits and veggies in a blender to mix them up. The key here is not heating the ingredients because heat destroys some of the enzymes in food.

So far this diet seems like just eating raw salads, snacking on seeds or nuts, and eating grain doesn”t it? That is not necessarily the case. Below is a recipe for a treat that will make your mouth water in anticipation, and it involves no cooking at all.

The ingredients needed are: 2 ripe avocados, 3 tomatoes, half a jalapeno, 3 cloves of garlic, kernels from 1 ear of organic corn, 2 teaspoons of lime juice, a quarter cup fresh cilantro, a quarter of a yellow onion, and 8 large romaine lettuce leaves.

Set the lettuce leaves on the side at first and get a knife and cutting board. Dice the tomatoes, the jalapeno, and the onion. Next, chop the cilantro and mince the garlic cloves. Now get a bowl and mash the avocado. Add all the other ingredients and stir until everything is mixed together.

With a spoon, scoop some of the mixture out and place on a piece of romaine lettuce and wrap. Once you are done, you have just created a great snack to enjoy, without having to cook anything at all.

If you are shopping around for a lifestyle change to lose weight, get more energized or just to try something new, the raw food diet may be just for you. It is easy to follow and one of the easiest diet systems to prepare because you do not even need to have a stove to stay on this diet. Have you ever been too tired to cook, or just wanted to save some money on electricity by not needing a stove or microwave? Well then the raw food diet is just for you! You can eat well, feel great and get back to a much simpler lifestyle where nature provides all you need.
