A Look At Some Attractions In Toronto

By Adriana Noton

If you are looking for a vacation that will be diverse and fun for the entire family, Toronto is one place you may want to consider. This city is jam packed with shopping, sightseeing, nightlife, outdoor fun and a whole lot of things for kids to do too. And great restaurants are not hard to come across either. To put it simply, there is a plethora of attractions in Toronto.

Until 2008, Toronto was home to the world”s tallest free standing structure. In 2008, the Bruj Dubai overtook Toronto”s CN Tower and gained that title. But, even though it is no longer the tallest, it is the first thing you will notice when you arrive.

The tower is 1815 feet high and equipped with glass walled elevators. Visitors can take a glass floored elevator to the Look Out level and then walk around on the Glass Floor. From here, you can see all the way down to the street (1136 feet below.) You might then continue on to the Skypod which is up 1466 feet. From here, on a clear day, spectators can see as far as Niagara Falls about 100 miles away.

In addition to the great views from the CN Tower, spectacular views of the city can also be found from the Bloor Street Viaduct. This is a pedestrian walkway that connects the East End with Midtown. This view is completely different than the one from the tower. This view makes Toronto look like a lush forest with trees everywhere and skyscrapers only peeking out occasionally.

Sports fans will have a field day here, Toronto being home to four major sports teams. Air Canada Centre is home to the Maple Leafs hockey team and the basketball team, the Raptors. The Blue Jays play baseball at the Rogers Centre as do the footballers, the Argonauts. In addition to catching a live event, sports fans can also visit the Hockey Hall of Fame in Brookfield Place.

Shopping is abundant in Toronto with several major districts. Chinatown, Queen Street West and the Eaton Centre are a few of the best areas downtown. There is also an Underground City which is popular during the winter. Some of the city”s most expensive wares are found in Midtown in areas like Bloor Street West and Yorkville. Terrific restaurants are to be found all over the city including exquisite fine dining, family friendly joints and plenty of late night diners.

The kids will find plenty to do here as well. The African Lion Safari features a huge collection of jungle cats as well as other animal friends like lemurs and elephants. The Toronto Zoo is one of the best zoos in the world. Designed after the heralded San Diego Zoo, the animal inhabitants are all set up in natural environments. For the learning experience, check out the Ontario Science Center and for wild fun, visit Paramount Canada”s Wonderland.

For the outdoor activity enthusiast, Toronto will not disappoint. The city offers canoes, rowboats and paddle boats for rent on Toronto Islands. There are also ample opportunities to ski, skate, hike, bike along trails, golf and swim. Several beaches also are included in the list of attractions in Toronto.

Everyone Likes a Nice Cup of Tea, but is it Good for You?

By David Somberville

Tea has been around for centuries, and after water it is the most popular drink in the world. Around since the 10th Century it is these days consumed in many different ways, in a variety of settings and means different things to different people. Common tea varieties include Black, White, Green and Oolong.

In the UK for example, Black tea is the most common and is traditionally served with milk and sugar. It is drank by people from all walks of life and is equally at home in a road side cafe and a Ritzy hotel. However in other parts of the world the inclusion of milk and sugar in tea could be a travesty.

In Japan, tea is often drunk as part of a very special cultural ceremony. Using Green tea, the ceremony is a strictly adhered to process and represents how every moment in someone”s life is in itself a unique event and should be savored.

Morocco is another country in which tea is an important part of the culture. Moroccans have their own ceremony which involves Green tea, mint and sugar and is served in small, often beautifully decorated glasses. For Moroccans it is an important part of family and business life.

While tea is certainly a natural product, produced from the dried leaves, leaf buds and internodes of the Camellia sinensis plant, it does contain the stimulant caffeine. If over used, in large amounts caffeine can cause something called ”Caffeinism.” This can produce withdrawal symptoms and instill irritability and anxiety amongst many other negative effects. Taken in moderation though, caffeine is a relatively harmless stimulant.

In fact, according to the Tea Advisory Panel, there are many health benefits. For example, did you know that tea without milk has no calories? That drinking four cups of tea with milk, gives you more than 20% of your daily calcium requirement. Tea is 99% water so is an important source of fluid and counts towards your recommended 8 cups of fluid a day. Also, tea is a natural source of vital minerals such as manganese and potassium. Did you know that potassium is the key to beating a hangover!

I think you can tell that tea, wherever you drink it in the world and in whichever form you take it, has significant potential health properties. Although, perhaps cutting back on the sugar would be a good idea.

Eating Right for Weight Loss

By Jesse Clarke

If you want a healthy body, you need to do more than just exercise. You need to eat right. You have to eat an adequate diet that includes healthy dietary fats. Fats are necessary as they are part of the cell membranes that go throughout the body.

If you eat healthy foods, your cellular processes will work normally. But if you eat bad foods: those that are man-made processed, and chemically treated, you will find your cellular structure will break down from lack proper nutrition. Your cell structure will become impaired and your cells will have to work harder to compensate.

When this happens, unfortunately, diseases do occur.
Healthy eating also helps keep the body balanced. Hormone production is normal. Muscle building occurs at a normal rate and fat burning occurs. The vitamins and minerals our body consumes are absorbed and used for enzyme regulation.

We don”t eat good foods for various reasons. The first reason is because eating right is hard to do. The store sells foods that are processed and full of junk. But they taste so good that we are tempted to buy them.

The second reason is we were misled for many years to believe that good fats (those that are natural and unprocessed) have been removed from foods or were mixed in with bad foods. And the third reason is because we are lazy so we eat out. The restaurants we go to do not use the proper oils to cook with. They always go for the cheapest stuff.

If you want to develop a healthy body, you must learn to eat the right foods. This includes knowing what oils to use in cooking.

If you want to live right, you have to eat right. Every nutritionist will tell you that. There are foods you have to eat. The main concern with eating right is what foods are the most important.

Whether you know it or not, the most important food you need are fats, and good fats. These are fats that do your body good. The good fats are not hard to get if you know where to look.
Here is a food that is high in fats, but are the good fats.

Coconut fat: You may not realize this coconut fat is about 92% saturated fat. Although it contains that much fat, it is a very healthy and natural fat. Why is coconut fat good for you? It contains 65% medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), and 50% of MCT is lauric acid. This MCT is used to enhance the immune system.
The best sources of coconut fat include organic coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, and fresh coconut.

Choosing Restaurants Online By Looking At Ratings And Reviews

By Adriana Noton

Several options are available for Canadians when it comes to dining out. What makes restaurants great is their variety. No matter what the occasion there is a restaurant that can supply you with a nice meal. You can be on the go travelling or celebrating a special occasion. Dining establishments are separated into different categories to help you in your decision making.

This rating system is usually given by a star rating. Four to five stars depending on the category are the tops ratings and the people who have been there were so impressed that they rated the establishment with its highest honor. Those who received a one star rating have customers who were less than impressed with their service and they need to step up their game.

The rating system is important as when other people go online to find a place to eat out they look to these reviews to help them in their decision making. A person is more than likely going to try a restaurant if they have received a top star rating. If a restaurant looks good to the user and they are trying to decide between two or three restaurants they will more than likely pass on that establishment if the rating is not good.

There are several reasons that a rating could be on the scale in some capacity. These services are basic such as the customer service that the restaurant provides its customers. Other factors are the cleanliness of the establishment as well as the food. All of these factors are main reasons a rating is given.

Other reasons a company rating can be high or low is outlining factors such as the other customers in the restaurant. If there was a rude customer or a crying baby, for example, the establishment may get a lower rating just because the customer rating the place did not enjoy the ambiance. Other factors can include the lighting. If the lighting is too stark it can irritate a customer. The same is true for ambient lighting. It can be made to enhance a mood but if a customer cannot see anything it can be frustrating.

Typically the reviews that go along with the rating will give you the specifics of why the rating was given. You will see the experience in detail many times and why the reviewer feels that way. With the production of the internet you no longer have to depend on food critics when it comes to rating restaurants anywhere in the world. There are sites that are dedicated to reviewing restaurants online.

Often if you are looking for a guide for where to eat you can find it online. Say you are in Vancouver and you want a nice Italian restaurant. Simple search Italian Restaurants Vancouver BC and these restaurants available will appear. You will see individual restaurant sites and you will also see dining guides for Italian food. Go to the dining guide and see the options, the star ratings along with the reviews for these restaurant options. Some sites even let you make reservations online or order take out if you wish to do this as well.

Canadians visit restaurants each year for a variety of reasons. Take advantage of the rating system to help you make the best choice and try new options. Whether you are in your home town or visiting a different city you can find the information on the web to help you make the best choice in your dining enjoyment.

Basic Table Manners For Restaurants

By Adriana Noton

As with all things in life, there is a right way and a wrong way to act even in restaurants. Often times we forget that in order to function properly in society we all need to obey and recognize those rules and guidelines which dictate how we treat others. This is especially true as you interact with the men and women who work in diners and other eateries. Now, when visiting Canada you must be aware of how their table etiquette differs from the etiquette you are accustomed to but overall good manners is a universal language.

We forget that proper table etiquette extends far beyond home. Just because your mother is no where to be seen does not mean that it is OK to throw all of her rules and your manners out of the window. For whatever reason many people do just this especially when going out to eat. One would think that being out in public would only make us want to act more civilized and more socially acceptable but this is just not the case.

So, let us review some basic table manners. One of the major points to remember is to never ever talk with your mouth full of food or drink. Not only is this going to cause a mess but it is also going to be absolutely revolting to your companions and even to the service staff. So do not ask for more drink with your mouth full of salad or bread, it is not only rude but disgusting as well.

Make sure to use your silverware and napkin when needed. They are not just placed there for decoration these items serve a purpose. For example, if you are enjoying a nice juicy prime rib do not tear into it with your fingers and certainly do not gnaw at it like a canine. Instead, use your knife and fork and the napkin as needed. You should be sure to use ”Please” and ”Thank yous” as needed. This should be especially true for any children in your dinner party.

Children are always welcomed in many restaurant and diners. While well behaved children are an absolute delight, those children who are loud, throw things, and are rude are simply tolerated. Do not let your children run the table this is just not acceptable. Would you allow your child to address you rudely so why let the child address the server rudely? Would your child ever throw things on your floor? Do not let the child do it out in public.

When it comes to tipping this is often the best place to practice proper etiquette. Now the universally acceptable amount is between 15 to 20 percent. Now, there are some circumstances where this amount can be less. If the server was exceedingly rude or if the item you ordered was burned, raw, under cook and any attempts of fixing this issue is done so in vain then you may want to tip less. In large parties, the gratuity may have already been added to the bill but if not you will want to tip more then 20 percent. Remember, you can always tip more should you feel the need to.

Now, there are several more outdated rules of etiquette that you may or may not choose to follow. An example is passing to the right. In a family style restaurant you will often see the older generation passing the salad bowl or basket of bread to the right. Often times, people will wait until everyone is served before eating. Many people choose to eat after prayer which is said after the meal is served but others simply wait. While this is polite it now depends on the company you keep if you should still follow this etiquette rule. If you are with familiar friends of the same age you probably will not have to wait until everyone has their plate.

Etiquette and manners are important to our modern society. Without which we will possibly cause the collapse of the civilized world. Proper behavior in restaurants is especially important and reflects well on you and those around you. Tourists are often the ones that forget their manners when visiting different countries. You may see out of town visitors and think to yourself that they are rude and vulgar but maybe they are just not aware of local customs. For example Canadians may find it unusual that Americans want their plates cleared away as their done instead of waiting until the end of the meal. So if you travel be aware of rituals, customs, and other points of manner that you may not be used to. Restaurants are a great place to go and relax for lunch or an evening meal but do not do it with some amount of decency and manners.

The Beauty of Blooming Tea

By Louise Richards

If you haven”t tried a blooming tea blossom, you don”t know what your missing – not only in the beauty of the tea but also the aromatic flavor!

I have been collecting teapots for years. I love tea, every kind of tea. It wasn”t until recently that I tried a blooming tea blossom. It was fascinating and beautiful to watch it bloom but to my surprise, it tasted delicious!

When you are ready to use your tea blossom, glass teapots work best, especially if you want to watch the blooming take place. Make sure the teapot is clean and free from any streaks. Place the tea ball on the bottom of the pot. Pour water that is already boiling over the ball. If you are using the mushroom shape flower tea and it is upside down, don”t worry. The ball will right itself in the water. As the ball steeps, the leaves will soften and in a few minutes mature to a blooming flower. Steep the ball for at least five and up to ten minutes if you”d prefer a stronger tea. After drinking the tea. you may re-brew the same tea ball again up to five times. After that you may cover your bloom with cold water and display it for days.

Flowering teas are typically produced in tea gardens in the Yunnan province in southwestern China. White, green and black tea leaves are often combined with such fragrant flowers as chrysanthemum, jasmine, lily, osmanthus, lavender and hibiscus.

The different types of flowering tea each offer different benefits which are are derived from the healing properties of the individual blossoms used, together with those of the accompanying green, black and white tea leaves.

Flowering teas with chrysanthemum may help calm the nerves, lower blood pressure, detoxify the blood, clear congestion and cool the body.

Flowering teas with jasmine may help in refreshing the senses.

Flowering teas with lavender may help ease nervous tension and depression.

Flowering teas with amaranth may have calming and refreshing properties.

Flowering teas also gain some of the antioxidant properties found in the green, white and black tea leaves that are combined with the blossoms.

Make your next cup of tea with a blooming tea blossom and watch the magic unfold right before your eyes!

About The Author

I have always loved to drink tea and a few years ago I started a teapot collection. I now have one of the largest retail teapot stores online at EverythingTeapots.com I have recently added these flowering tea blossoms to my website.

The Reason for Obesity

By Jesse Clarke

Let”s face it. Who wants to be fat, especially women. It is a known fact that obesity in this country has become an epidemic. Why? If you look at TV, you will notice the media is constantly bombarding us with ads about food.

Why are advertising agencies flooding us with so many TV commercials about food, especially about McDonald”s or Burger King? The simple fact is they want you to get fat so you will go out and spend more money on diet pills. This way you can get skinny and then start all over by going back to the fast food joints to get fat again. It is a catch-22 scenario. It is a vicious cycle.
Understand one fact. The heath condition of the majority of people in developed nations has deteriorated to such an extent that it has literally become a crisis. According to experts, about 70% of the adult population living in the U.S is overweight. This means if you are thin and healthy you make up the minority.

This is a sad fact and something that needs to change. To think that the normal way to live is to be out of shape, overweight, and have all kinds of diseases? It is insanity. To think that nine out of ten people are obese is a bad stat. And this is what this country is leading to.

Why is this country leaning toward getting fat? It is because most of us live sedentary lives. Kids are not spending their time running around and playing games outside. Instead, they jump on their video games or spend time surfing the Internet and chatting with friends or others.

Besides the above, people are getting fatter because of the way they eat. They try to grab something quick and end up eating something they should not. Everything that is bought from the store is processed. It is refined. Most foods are packed with chemicals to preserve them for shelf life. We live in a fast-paced world. For this reason people claim they don”t have time to cook or are too tired to. So they grab quick junk foods from corner stores, fast food joints, and restaurants.

The plain and simple fact is that people have become lazy. In order to get out of that, you need to push yourself to maintain your control. You have to ac t responsibly.

The solution to being overweight is simple. Make smarter food choices, prepare your own meals, and get out and exercise. If you do this, you won”t have to worry about being fat.

Cupcake Star Power: Katy Perry

By Isabella Anjuli

Famous singer, Katy Perry, now Number 1 on The Maxim Magazine annual “Hot 100″ finds cupcakes irresistible. She exited a nightclub in August 2009 all covered with traces of cream and cupcake smeared all over her dress as well as her face too. Apparently, the famed star admitted to have joined in a “cupcake fight”.

Now that”s cupcake love!

In one of her tweets, Katy said: “Just got face swiped by Crumbs cupcakes. So fun tonight!” Katy”s fondness for cupcakes not only involves these cute treats flying in mid-air used to smash in someone”s face. She”s also a big fan of eating them.

Like other famous Hollywood stars, one of Katy”s favorite is the Red Velvet cupcake from the star-studded Crumb”s Bakery. Red Velvet cupcakes are at the top of the list of favorite cupcakes among famous stars and celebrities. Rich in chocolate flavour, and deep in classy, enticing rich, red color, these classic cupcakes are coined ”Red Velvets” for the vibrant, distinctive red color caused by a chemical reaction between the unprocessed cocoa used and the acid in the buttermilk.

Since the cupcake is a dark shade of red, the frosting definitely calls for a lighter color usually, a white vanilla or cream cheese frosting. Perhaps the rich chocolate flavor is one of the factors that made this cupcake so famous.

Even Katy Perry and fiancee Russel Brand seem to agree since they chose to celebrate their engagement by splitting a cupcake from Crumbs Bakery.

Engagements, weddings, Halloween parties, princess or super hero kids parties and even business meetings. Cupcakes can be served in all of these different events and add life to the party.

Cupcakes have become as hot as Katy Perry mainly because they can easily adapt to any event. The differences of each cupcake can then be expressed in the style, technique and application of the frosting. Like Katy”s engagement cupcake, a shiny layer of white fondant was placed on top to give the cupcake a smooth and shiny finish – giving off that elegant style.

Of course, cupcakes can be personalized to your party theme. For a more fun and adventurous approach, try using a pastry bag with a fine tip to create beautiful swirls.

Or, if you”d like to really customize your cupcake and give it a unique design, top the icing with different fondant shapes and forms. From cartoon characters down to intricate letterings, cupcakes can be your own yummy art canvas.

Prevent Bad Breath from Plaguing You

By Ronald Pedactor

You”ve been waiting for this day for months. You”ve finally got a hot date with that girl from your history class.

You couldn”t be more excited, but also couldn”t be more nervous. You pick her up at her place. She looks riveting.

The date is going well so far. You hit it off pretty well during dinner and you are making her laugh. Nothing is going to stop you!

At the end of the date, you walk her up to her door to say goodnight. She”s giving you the look. Yeah…the look.

She wants you to kiss her. It”s do or die time, buddy. This is what dreams are made of! You pucker up, close your eyes, and go in for the kill…

Suddenly you hear her voice to tell you she has to go. You open your eyes, and she”s sporting a very disgusted look on her face. She quickly says goodnight and rushes behind closed doors.

What did you do wrong? You were so close to winning! Unbeknownst to you, when you went in for the kiss your date smelled something similar to her Uncle Larry when he has had too much bean dip and guacamole.

Unfortunately, you had bad breath; and that was the deal-breaker. Nothing kills the mood faster than a whiff of something that smells like a 2-day old banana peel on the side of the road.

It plagues everybody at some point, but many don”t know what causes it, or more importantly, how to get rid of it. Here is some interesting information about the nasty oral side effect.

Bad breath is more formally known as halitosis, which is its dental name. It affects so many people that it is estimated to be the third most popular reason why people seek dentists.

There are over 600 types of bacteria that are present in the mouth, many of which contribute to the foul smell of breath. Halitosis can originate in many parts of the mouth, but the most common location is the tongue.

This is where most problems reside. Nasty bacteria sit and incubate on your tongue, especially on the back of it.

This part of your tongue is usually drier and doesn”t get that much use. Because of that, food deposits and dead skin cells sit in this location and become smellier and smellier until they make your whole mouth unbearable.

There are many ways that you can combat halitosis, but only a few ways to cure it all together. Mouthwashes, gum, sprays, or hand mints are used by many people, but these only cover up the bad smells and do not get to the root of the problem.

Others brush their tongue with their toothbrush. This is a little bit more effective than the other methods, but it still is not the best. A toothbrush usually catches bacteria and spreads it to other places on the tongue without you realizing it.

The best way to clean your tongue and cure bad breath is by using a tongue scraper. These appear to be like toothbrushes but are scraped along the surface of the tongue, collecting and removing the bacteria colonies.

This is probably the best way to find the root of your bad breath problem. Doing this gets rid of the bacteria that made you smelly and will prevent future bad breath until new bacteria originates in your mouth again.

There are several ways to properly “diagnose” yourself with a case of bad breath. There is one surefire way but it can be a little embarrassing for some.

Ask someone else if you have bad breath! Sometimes all it takes is a trusted friend or family member to take a whiff and be honest with you.

If you don”t feel comfortable doing that, there is a more private way. You can take a plastic spoon and scrape the back of your tongue with it.

Wait a couple seconds until it dries, and then smell it. Getting the specimen from the back of the tongue will give you the best indicator of how your whole mouth smells.

Take pride in yourself and do everything in your power to prevent bad breath from plaguing you! You will thank yourself when that new hot date comes around!
