How to Choose Out of the Four Wine Cellar Cooling Units

By Art Gib

Those who are serious enough about wine in order to have their own wine cellar are those who appreciate good wine. This means they will want to make certain everything is in order to safely store it. One thing that has to happen in order to store wine correctly is to keep the wine cellar cool. The fact of the matter is that there are as many as four different options to choose from as far as cooling a wine cellar. In order to make an informed decision between the four methods, it”s important to know some of the basic information about each first.

The first of four different kinds of wine cellar cooling units is known as a thru the wall unit. It comes from three main brands such as Whisperkool, Guardian and Vinotemp. These options typically only cool one room. Since they are a relatively smaller option than others, they are also relatively more affordable. Those who only need to cool their wine cellar and nothing else may want to consider a thru the wall unit.

The second type of unit is a one piece ducted system. There are a few other brands that work with this one. One of the more highly favored of those brands is the Wine Guardian. There are a few different options available with this choice. They can work with humidification, water-cooling, duct collars, electric heat, and low ambient. They are relatively easy to install which makes them a popular choice.

The reach-in-air-handler split system does not use ducts. Instead, it uses an air handler in order to circulate the newly cooled air throughout the room with a fan. This spreads the air across the evaporator coil. When something in the air conditioning field is labeled as ”split”, it usually means that it is a separate unit that can be found outdoors.

A ducted split system, as the name implies, uses ducts. These ducts are placed throughout several walls and rooms in order to distribute the cool air. Those who have large, custom wine cellars or several custom wine racks might do well to invest in an air conditioning unit that is powerful enough to reach the entire space. There is little point in purchasing wine cellar cooling units if they will not adequately cool down all of the wine. Indeed, each unit is best for certain circumstances. Those who understand what each one does can now make an informed decision regarding which to go with.

By Giviani Dellen

When you first learn how to cook you will probably have a disaster or two but remember everyone has to start somewhere and even those who have been doing it for a long time have their occasional disaster. Never let this put you off
cooking, always have another go and whatever went wrong, work it out and learn from it.

Try something simple to begin with so you can learn to understand how a recipe works. See if the people you know or your family members have something you can borrow which is not too complicated. Try looking in a book store or on the
internet for simple recipes.

If you have never done any cooking before, and do not have much of an idea, then bringing water to the boil on a stove will be a good start. This will help with understanding how full a pot needs to be before it will boil over. It can also
be turned up or down to get an idea of how the heat on the stove works.

This is important to know when cooking other things like vegetables. There is usually a time needed to cook something through, and there will be things that will cook quickly and other things which will be much slower. Knowing how long
something takes to cook is another important step.

If you were planning on boiling eggs, soft boiled takes about four to five minutes from the time the pot starts to boil, while a hard boiled egg will need about eight minutes. Vegetables are usually cooked when they are soft this may be anything from fifteen to twenty minutes.

Becoming good at cooking takes practice and the more that is done the better a person becomes at it. There are many tips out there that can help make it feel great to do, some of these can be very simple things like preheating the oven,
greasing a frying pan and cake and biscuit trays, plus there are many more out there to find.

There are just a few things to remember when cooking to begin with, try to keep the recipes as simple as you can, if you have a disaster try to work out why it went wrong if you can, and when you get another chance, have another try at
it. Keep practicing as this will help to make you a good cook. Check on the internet and in a local book shop as you may be able to find some of those simple recipes and do some research on some of those good tips.

Top Five Catering Mistakes to Avoid

By Art Gib

Whether catering is needed for a family get together, wedding, funeral, birthday party, holiday event, charity event or anything else, it”s important to take every precaution possible in order to avoid screwing it up. While much of that task is left up to the caterer themselves, the responsibility also lies upon the person who hires the caterer. The fact of the matter is that many mistakes are often made when it comes to catering which is why it”s important to know what they are in order to avoid them.

First, it”s important to not make the mistake of hiring a novice. Even if the host themselves wants to handle the details of being a caterer, it”s not a good idea. There are professionals in this field for a reason. The fact of the matter is that whenever there is a large event that necessitates a lot of food, anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Somehow, catastrophe always follows a big event which is why only the professionals should be tasked with the job of handling it.

Second, not every caterer is created equal. A huge mistake is to not check references. This means they are all different in the types of foods they prepare, how well they prepare them, their punctuality, professionalism, ability to produce results under pressure, prices and more. Going with the first caterer that is considered is one of the worst mistakes anyone can make. They all have a way of making themselves look fantastic, but when it comes down to it, few of them really are. Check and cross check to see which services stand out according to their references.

Third, keep it simple. No matter how simple the meal may sound, it will be trying in its own way. The more complex the menus, the more impossible it will seem on the night of the event. Complex menus confuse people, lead to extra wasted food at the end and put more strain on all who are helping to prepare. There are several simple, yet elegant menus to choose from. Those who try complex menus usually end up screwing up the works and therefore deeply regret this common mistake.

Fourth, the lack of planning can end up as a catastrophe. Many people get a natural high from leaving things to the last minute, but catering is one area that should be well thought out. Missing ingredients or undercooking foods are two ways that a catered event could end up as a massive failure. Be sure to plan ahead and make the event a guaranteed success.

Knowing Your Coffee Beans

By Bercle George

Coffee Beans are generally termed as seeds of a particular plant, both the red or purple plant. Technically, they are seeds. However, due to their appearance and resemblance to pellets, it has been generally accepted that they are named this way instead of seeds. Caffeine pellets on its own, contain endosperm, which has about 0.8-2.5% caffeine, which is one of the main reasons why they are cultivated.

Worldwide, these necessities for making the beverage are cultivated on a major scale, due to it being popular to people of all ages, plus it is regarded as one of the more successful crops in human history. In the United States alone, this drink ranks as one of the most regularly consumed beverage, on par with soft drinks, and surprisingly, water. Also, United States also consumes the most coffee throughout the entire globe.

However these caffeine seeds are probably one of the more important, yet unnoticed factors when it comes to this drink. Sometimes, they are not even maintained properly, evidenced by the fact that in some caffeine services houses, these seeds are left in the open, exposed to air and other harmful elements. Contrary to popular belief, that it does not do anything to the quality of these fundamentals of the drink, it actually makes this basis of the beverage much more likely to stale more quickly, as compared to those which are sealed in containers, specifically airtight ones.

Also, remember, that this wonderful drink is often best the day after it is roasted. However, the day in which it was roasted is still better, but, in most cases, you”ll only get grounded pellets usually a day after it is grinded.

This is best kept in mind for those that buy caffeine seeds or the ground variety of this drink in which they are shipped into their households. And for those that grind their own coffee beans, it would be best to buy online a week”s supply at most. Buying more than that would just be a waste of money, since ground coffee beans loses its overall taste after a week or so.

By Bercle George

Wines are integral part of any party, especially the formal ones. They add taste to any party that is because they are the ones responsible for setting the tone of the party. This is the reason why, parties are usually not complete with this type of drink. However, before you go on to buy this beverage, it is best to know the different types of wine.

Most of the time, this drink is named depending on the era they are produced, such is the case with champagne and pouilly fuisse, and some are named from the grapes they are produced of. There are also wines that are named with brand names, and some are named depending on the place they are produced in.

* Regional Wines – These are produced in a certain region. For example, in Europe, wherein the history of wines are long and rich, and this is further evidenced by the fact that there is strict regulation for the quality of wines that they produce, such as the grapes used and practices and place of the vineyard. Examples of regional ones are Bordeaux, Chablis, Chianti, Burgundy, Beaujolais, and Champagne.

* Varietal Wines – These are the types in which whose names are derived from the names of the grapes that were used in the production. The more common types of varietal include, chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, merlot, pinos gris, and sangiovese. Most wines are named this way so they can be easily classified.

* Generic Wines – Most often than not, generics are non-existent in European countries. However, for other countries all around the world, generics can be found and are abundant. These types are not really the real thing, and are only generic. For example, generic wines named champagne are not really champagne, that is because real champagne can only be produced in the champagne region of france.

Let\’s Learn How To Make Sushi

By Brian Jones

Sushi originated in the 7th century when the Japanese introduced the process of pickling. Fish was packed with rice and as it fermented, lactic acid was made. This lengthy procedure (taking two months to a year) gave the fish the signature flavor that is now called Nare-Sushi. Sushi making has since grown into a culinary art that has been mastered by chefs worldwide and sushi itself became known as the pieces of raw fish placed rice on or wrapped in seaweed (nori), rolled and cut into slices. Popular Sushi eateries are known for their ambience, sake (rice wine) and shows the chefs put on of their knife skills as well as the excellent sushi. There are many different types of sushi:

1.Nigiri-zushi – bundles of rice, topped with wasabi and fish.
2.Sashimi is simply raw fish, sliced thinly, served without rice.
3.Chirashi-zushi or sushi salad is prepared in a bowl, with several different kinds of fish and vegetables mixed in with rice.
4.Maki-zushi is rice and seafood, rolled up in nori seaweed. This is the most popular type of sushi

If you want the sushi without the restaurant, this beginners” guide to Maki-zushi will get you on your way.

Required Materials

Japanese rice
Japanese rice vinegar
Meat: Sashimi-Grade fish (fish that has been frozen at under -4 F for to kill any parasites) shellfish tofu or eggs
Vegetables: avocado, carrots, and cucumber
Nori – thin sheet of seaweed
Ginger root
Wasabi
Soy sauce
Sushi (bamboo) mat
Chopsticks (optional)
Sharp kitchen knife

Instructions

Part one: Preparing the rice
Step one:
Heat the rice vinegar with and dissolve sugar and salt in it.

Step two:
Clean the rice in cold water.

Step three
Steam in a rice cooker or bring water to a boil, add the rice, then cook over very low heat until the water is evaporated. This will make the rice sticky and perfect for placing on on your nori. Use the rice soon after preparing it, or cover it with a damp cloth to keep it damp.

Part two: Rolling and Cutting the Sushi
Step one:
Put a sheet of clear plastic wrap over the bamboo mat.

Step two:
Spread the Nori down on the bamboo mat with the shiny side face down

Step three:
With damp hands, take the cooked rice and place it onto the Nori. The layer of rice should be thin enough so that you can see the nori beneath.

Step four:
Leave about half an inch of space at the corner of the nori furthest from you. Put a little warm water on it to allow the two sides of nori stick together.

Step five:
Put your ingredients in the middle of the nori.

Step six:
Holding the closest edge of the bamboo mat, roll the sushi away from you.

Step seven:
Tighten the roll as you go, do not make it too tight as the fillings will fall out

Step eight:
Unwrap the bamboo (if rolled correctly, it will not fall apart).

Step nine:
Place the bamboo mat over the roll and press to squash the roll further.

Step ten:
Put the roll on to a cutting board. Cut it first down the middle. After that you can cut it into sixths or eighths.

Step eleven:
Place roll on a flat plate, garnished with wasabi and ginger root.

To eat, put a small amount of soy sauce into a small platter or dish, put wasabi and ginger root onto a roll and dip in the soy sauce and then place the entire roll in your mouth and enjoy!

Tips and warnings:

1)Only use Sashimi-Grade fish when making sushi, regular frozen fish is not safe to be eaten raw and can result in severe cases of food poisoning. In order for seafood to be safe for consumption in sushi, it may be frozen at under -4 F for a significant enough time to have killed any parasites.

2)At all times use Japanese rice, regular rice is not sticky enough and the roll will come apart

Imagine… You Can Have Your Child Eat Healthier In Just 1 Day

By Heather Eaton

A problem that plagues many parents across America is the fact that now more than ever junk food is readily available to children, even school cafeterias which are supposed to provide healthy balanced meals are loaded with junk food that has very little if any nutritional substance. Getting your children to eat things like fruits and vegetables can seem almost impossible.

If your child is like most children in the United States they typically only want tea things like chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, pizza and other common types of junk food. If you are willing to think outside of the box and be a little bit covert you can get your kid to start eating healthier foods although it does require coercing or tricking them into eating healthy until they can decide to eat healthy for themselves. Below are some tips to gradually adding healthy foods into your children”s diet.

The next time your children want hamburgers or pizza try adding a little organic spinach into the hamburger meat or sprinkle on top of the pizza start with a very small amount of first gradually adding more each time into your children become accustomed to the taste of spinach in their food. If you add organic spinach into a regular hamburger and top it with cheese and ketchup and mustard your child will hardly even taste that it”s there.

Instead of making traditional fat fried french fries tries taking some healthy potatoes slicing them thinly tossing them in a little bit of olive oil and baking them in the oven at 400 degrees for around 30 minutes. Your new home a fries will come out crisp and flavorful and many children will actually preferred these to the traditional fat covered french fries.

If your child is one of the millions that eats pretty much nothing except Mac and cheese a quick way to healthily turbo charge their diet is to switch from the traditional Mac and cheese to one that is made with a wheat-based old grain pasta. Trust me once that cheese is added your kid will not taste the difference switching to whole grain pasta will make an enormous improvement on the dietary value of their meal.

Take fresh fruit and buy some very inexpensive wooden skewers at the grocery store. For a healthy dessert snack make your kids fruit skewers. The trick is not to tell them it”s healthy make a creative name for the skewers we like to call ours pirate sticks. Many kids love the idea of taking food off the skewer and if there”s a little bit of pushback sprinkle some sugar on top, I know you”re trying to avoid the sugar but hey you got a big win with having them eat fruit!

Another great idea for a healthy family dinner is to make your own taco bar at home. You will be surprised at how healthy kids eat if you allow them to make the food themselves. When a child feels the healthy food is not forced upon them they have a tendency to explore a little bit outside of their traditional boundaries. Pizza bars are also a great way to get your kid to try adding some healthy toppings to their food.

Emergency Food Storage

By Tom Selwick

Most people say that they don”t have food storage because they do not have room in their home. Since having a supply in your hope could potentially save your life and lives of every member of your family, space should be found and set aside for an emergency supply.

Food storage should be placed in an area of the home with little to no moisture and where the temperature is steady year-round. Places like the garage fluctuate in temperature drastically during the summer and winter months, making the food not able to last as long.

Places like the basement, however, are easily accessible, the temperature is stable, and people like how it is out of the way and not taking up living space. It is also a safe place to gather in situations like a tornado.

After setting aside a place to store your emergency food storage, you can start building up your supply little by little. While putting food in your storage room, remember that the supply is not to be put in there and forgotten about until an emergency happens.

Instead, the food should be rotated regularly. Try to use as much of your supply as possible in your everyday meals, and then replace what you use. This ensures that the food in your supply does not go bad.

The most important thing to include in your storage supply is water. This is one thing that is essential for the survival of all human beings, and your supply should be in abundance.

Your supply should contain enough water for each person in your household to have the use one gallon everyday for at least 10 days. If at all possible, that supply should be increased to a 30-day supply. This means that a family of four should have a minimum of 40 gallons of water stored in their house in case of an emergency.

The water can be housed in plastic or glass containers so that it stays clean and drinkable at all times. It should not be next to any gasoline, pesticides, or any other harmful substances. Your water supply will not only be used for drinking, however, it will also be used for preparing food and any sanitary needs.

Your food storage should also contain dry and canned food. Dried food usually includes things like rice, dehydrated beans, noodles, wheat, flour, and sugar. These are supplies that can be used for many different meals, and typically only need water to help prepare a meal with.

Dry food can be packaged in buckets and last over 25 years. There is also something called freeze-dried food. This method can take freshly cooked meals, flash freeze them, and then suck out all of the oxygen and 98% of the moisture from the food.

These can be housed in buckets or water and oxygen proof packaging and can last up to 25 years in bucket or 10 years in other packaging. When you open up the package, you simply add water and the food will be ready to eat.

The next thing to get for you emergency needs is canned food. These things include canned soup, vegetables, fruit, and any other things that come in a can and can be stored and last potentially for years.

Food offered in cans can be eaten without any preparation or added water. Sometimes soup is concentrated, and it is suggested to add a can of water to it, but the water is not necessary to make it edible. Adding water, will of course make it last longer because there will be more, but it is not required.

The dry and canned storage supply can be used for a variety of different meals, and are easy to incorporate in your everyday meals so you can rotate you supply often. A good amount to have on hand is about one year”s worth of food to sustain every member of your family.
